Ideal height of a Farm

I received many emails regarding what is the ideal height of farms. Sorry! most of the time I didn't reply as I always considered it as a very basic info where most would have known the answer.

Well since the emails keep on coming I have to reply somehow.

The height from the floor to the nesting plank should be above 6 ft or more. Of course the higher the better but this would cause difficulty when harvesting or repairing wiring or tweeters. I have seen farms with 6 ft height have thousand of nests.

Therefore anything above 7 ft would be good. A too low ceiling to floor won't be good for the young birds. They need a good drop off to fly.

Most shop lots come with a height of at least 10 ft or more. Some up to 15 ft.

Bear in mind that the height of the farm also affect the micro. There are correlation between both.

So when building a farm (stand alone) we have to take consideration of the size of the entire farm before we justify the height of the farm .
Good Luck!
