Talk about Swiftlets ..........lost count, totally lost count too many. It produces one of the best quality nest in the World.
( Super Prime Zone Area " can you see my farm......?.....??)
Swiftlet Farming is one of the most potential Agro related business. This Swiftlet Farming Blog was created to reveal and expose the insight of Swiftlets farming. Swiftlets farming is viable in Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia,Cambodia,Myanmar, Laos, Philippine and Brunei
It was a 6 hours drive and the weather in the northern region was bad. It rains non stop and I have to drive slow. The farm’s owner reached the farm before me and waited for me for almost 2 hours. He was quite up set. I guess he was very impatient to see what happen to his farm after I had revamped. He has no access to the farm as I am holding the keys and this was the arrangement of the revamp. The moment I reached the farm he was so anxious. I apologized and explained what had happened.
It’s true that Attitude lies behind failed farms. I had visited countless of successful and failed farms. When I compared both there are clear cut differences between the attitude of the owner of the successful farm and the owner of a failed farm. What causes these differences besides the micro and macro? ‘It is the Attitude”
As usual when I visit farm I meet up with the owner and have a discussion on the history of the farm like who is the one who built it, what had he done before this , where and how he aquired the skill and information about Swiftlets farming and so on.
Besides the obvious issues of the micro, one of the most astonishing factors that cause farms heading for failure is the attitude of the farm’s owner. These are;
1) Over confident:
Its common that most who joined this industry would think that they will beat those pioneer farms otherwise they wouldn’t have got involved if they knew that Swiftlet farming is not easy and the failure rate is 80%. Most would think that they would be on the 20% side (successful side) instead the 80% side.
With such perception “I am the best and I already know what I wanted to know” 80% chances they are heading for failure. With this they will no longer seek more advice. To them perhaps buying few books and so on is good enough..
2) Arrogant and Selfish
Once they have obtained information or learned something about Swiftlet Farming they will keep it to themselves some may even brag about it how well they had known this industry. What they didn’t know is that the information that they had obtained is actually common basic information that most farmers had already known.
They yet to have the ability to evaluate the quality of the information they obtained whether the skill they had learned from someone could be potentially applied to Swiftlet farming, whether the information they received from someone is accurate as most of them are yet to own a farm.
3) Penny wise pound foolish
Because of the lack of ability to weight and even many had resorted to use cost as a measurement tool to measure success in Swiftlet Farming.
To them the lowest cost to renovate or to construct a building for Swiftlet farm will justify success.
The cost of involvement would be double in future when the farm fails and need to be revamped. Besides that time and effort also wasted. Many still believe closing up windows with plywood, erect few partitions and play some birds sound birds will come and make nests.
Some even build stand alone the size of a kitchen, no wall insulation and so on to expect their farms to have 100 nests in 3 months.
Therefore having the right attitude is most important if one wants to be successful in this field. Definitely there is no short cut here. No short cut in information and skill too.
Good Luck.
Hexagonal Tweeter plays an important role in achieving your farm’s goal of attracting Swiftlets.
It is most vital if your farm is located in the Prime Swiftlets Zone. With many sounds played from all farms from this area the sound from your farm has to be heard by birds from this Prime area in order for them to fly or to visit your farm thus creating higher chances to stay and to make nest.
Swiftlet is a very unique kind of bird they are very sensitive to sound when a good external sound that is rarely heard is played they would swap to the source of sound. This only happened if the sound reaches them.
If you have a good external sound and this sound couldn’t reach the area where the Swiftlets congregated then it is of no use having a good sound. The ability of the sound to reach an area is of the same important of having a good sound.
Especially if your farm is located between farms that are higher than yours. Using Hexagonal Tweeter would help to draw Swiftlets to your entrance hole.
If without the Hexagonal tweeter Swiftlets that pass by would have the tendency to fly to the sound played by higher farms (building) before they fly to your farm. So indirectly your farm would be second choice to the birds.
Therefore in Swiftlet farming everything has to be at it optimum or best. Any single part which is not perfect would affect the other. So having a good sound is not enough if it can not reach the targeted areas.
Good Luck.

While I was driving back from the East Coast I received many calls from my readers from all over
Below is the conversation between the user of Love potion and me. This particular readers and user of Love Potion is from the East Coast. Mr. L has few swiftlets farms none of them perforce well and the number of nests has been stagnated. He had cried for help with no avail until he uses Love Potion.
After using Love Potion Not only his farm showed significant increase in nest but also those of his friend that he had recommended using Love potion also showed the same result.
Mr. Lk: Hi Mr. James, I hope once the Love Potion in available next week you can send to us first. All of us are waiting for the Love and we can’t do the harvesting without the Love Potion. Once the Love Potion is here then only we can do the harvesting.
James: No problem I shall send to you first but only next week as now none of Love Potion available.
Mr. Lk: James, what have you put in Love Potion?
.
James: Secret recipe….from cooking shows on Tvs…..Ha……ha….
.
Mr. Lk: It is so powerful. For the past 2 years my farm has only 60 nests and it stagnated and remained the same until I use Love Potion in Feb this year. As today nest count after continuous using Love Potion for 6 months it has 240 nests. I was totally shock to see the result.
.
You know what? My friend’ farm had maintained 30 nests for the past 3 years changed when I recommended him to use Love Potion in April this year. The nest count last week was 90 nests. This is definitely no coincidence. My friends and I were shocked to see the result gradually increases every month. Please send Love Potion as soon as possible.
.
Boss why always out of stocks? Stock more for us lah. They are many users now.
.
James: That’s why it runs out of stocks, many people using now. If it always available any time 24/7/365 days that means the product is not effective, plenty of unsold stocks…ha..ha
Anyway I shall try my very best to increase my production capacity. I had already increased my production by more than double. ……I will see what I can do.
I felt good that the Love potion had help many farms. Nothing is better than helping others. This is just one of the many good responses I received from uncounted users of Love potion that showed significant increase of nest.
Good luck!
These pictures were taken in a town in the East coast. I really admire the way they do their farms. Most of the farms here have one intention not to create eye sore and to avoid people from the council and complains.
If you are not in this Swiftlets farming industry you may not noticed the farms around here.
Not all are Open Roof type, there are many Dog Kennels too but the Dks are located in the middle of the building so the edge of the building blocked the Dks. So it is very hard to see the Dks unless one goes up to the top floor of the opposite building.
The windows are perfectly done like most normal office or building. You can hardly fine the PVC ventilation holes.
The only thing you can see are the swiftlets flying above the farm in the evening. This should be the way of swiftlets farming and I strongly support such design.
The sound is not too loud. I guess most of the farmers here are very concern about the public and has well civic.
This is what they call “Good Farming”.

I often received calls and emails from my readers regarding the cost of building of a Stanalone farm. Many of them would ask how much the cost per s/f for building a Standalone. By such questions it is clearly seen that cost of building has been used as the main criteria for measuring success.
The above is all about to create and achieve a good micro so that birds would stay and make nests thus your ROI is safeguarded.
Obviously you could build a farm by using cement board as walls or even plywood and so on……..you will still achieve your objective of having a Standalone farm but to make a good macro it is not as easy as that. Otherwise if it is so cheap and easy to build a Stanalone then you would see more Stanalone than shop lot farm.
Anybody can build a Stanalone farm but having achieved building a farm and having a successful farm that generates income is two different things.
Hope all readers know how to differentiate this.
Good Luck.

Last week when was on my way to P.Dickson. I received a call from one of my readers.
“Hi James, how are you? I am Mr. O from Pagoh. I have followed your blog since last year and I would like to thank you for your kind effort to provide useful information to all swiftlet farmers.”
“You are welcome Mr. O, I replied. How could I help you?’
“James I have a Stan Alone farm which I built 2 years plus ago in Pagoh the result is not good. It has only 8 nests now. I had tried all ways to rectify it even some well known consultants were invited but it is still the same. So to counter my frustration now I am building another one around this area as I have about 35 acres of land here. I presume the new farm will be better than the existing one and I am confident about it. The foundation works is on going now for a week.”
“I replied, Mr. O, confident is totally another thing. Before you started building your your 1st farm did you do the preliminary works first like Birds test evaluation, location potentiality evaluation, Swiftlets population evaluation and so one?”
He was muted for a while and replied well I did see many birds around. Then I prompted him further. What about the size of your building, the size of the roving, and the position of the entrance hole…….. the thickness of the wall, the material use and so on…………( the whole design package).
This time he was lost….totally lost. The only replied he gave me was “JAMES CAN I CALL YOU BACK IN A SHORT WHILE? I HAVE TO CALL MY CONTRACTOR TO STOP THE CONSTRUCTION WORKS IMMEDIATELY.”
Mr.O was a daring person. He built his farm with the knowledge he acquired from books, seminar and idea from friends.
Mr.O called me back later and we continue to chat further. We shall be meeting in Pagoh. I will have a look at his current farms first and from here I would advise him further. I asked him to hold on first the current construction.
Once it is done it will be “NO Turning Back”. Yes I do understand to some out there money is absolutely no an issue but this is not how I work as I always believe it’s wiser to do it RIGHT the first time.
Hope all readers could learn something from here.

上星期當我在P.Dickson的途中。

This is regarding setting up a farm in The Prime Swiftlets Zone which I think it had never been written before in any of the blogs around. It covers the strategy of pre and post planning in order to have a successful farm in those hot areas. Hope this would give some clear pictures and what to be expected for those intended to have a farm in such areas.
When we intended to have a farm in the Prime Swiftlets Zone do not expected our farms will be successful unless we are ready to complete with those heavy weight around us.
In such situation having a farm in the PSZ doesn’t promise you anything unless you are skillful, have a good strategy and well prepared for it. Not only you need a good farm but your farm has to be extra ordinary than those heavy weighs around you. You must know how to manage it over a period of time until a targeted bird’s population is achieved.
During this period there are many things that needed to be done especially maintenance. This is to make sure that a good micro condition is continuous maintained so that your farm wouldn’t loose out to those heavy weights.
Those heavy weights have been there for years before your farm and had been harvesting many good kgs what makes you think that their birds will abandon their farms for yours?
I would say most who intended to have a farm in the PSZ would be amazed when the look into the sky thousand of Swiftlets roaming the sky everyday. I am sure most of them must be thinking “Wow so many birds it must be easy to get them into my farm even attracting 2% of them them into my farm that will be good enough”.
Often then not to get the 2% or even 1% is not as easy as it is unless you are skillful enough and know what you are doing. Most of the time you would hear people complaining “ My neighbor has 3k nests but my farm only has 30 nest after 4 years” this very common in this field.
.
.
So be prepared it is just like going for a War. Everything must be preplanned. You must have the strategy where, when, how to attack (attract the swiftlets) and what (what is needed to make all these works). Know the pioneer farm' activities ( know your opponents).
.
.
Where = Where is your location, Where is the pioneer farm located? Where to put the Hex tweeter, Where is your entrance hole position, etc……..there are hundreds more.
.
When = When should you complete your renovation (which months of the mating season). When should you change your sound, when to applied aroma, when to install things, etc…….many..
.
How = How are you going to make them stay once the birds are attracted your farms. How are you going to attract more of them, How are you going to attract the colony leader, How to maintain a constant perfect micro even the weather changes, etc……..and hundred more
.
What= What are you going to do if more farms are coming up around or next to your farm, What you need to do to sustain the nests growth, What is your strategy to attract birds. What skill do you have (know yourself before you try to attack others), Know what you are doing, etc……hundred more.
.
(The above has to be coincided with a good MICRO)
.
.
I would confidently say not many perhaps less than 5% would have this being preplanned. Most would think that once they have got a good location or having a farm next to a successful pioneer farm they are safe and they will be laughing to the bank. In fact they are suffering in silence, mentally tortured seeing thousands of birds flying into their neighbors’ farms but not theirs. This may drag on for years. (Call me if you want to put a stop to this torture).
.
.
So my advise before your embark on this you must know what you are doing and know what is your strength. No one knew more than you know yourself.
.
.
So be prepared. “It is very tough if you don’t possessed the necessary skill when it comes to the PSZ”. I certainly don’t encourage DIY in such area unless you know what you are doing otherwise you ended up Total Lost.
.
.
GOOD LUCK!
.
.
Last month I was invited to visit the
The
.
.
There are many units here all for one reason “Swiftlet farming”. It’s located not far away from Setiawan the Prime Birds Zone Area. The whole idea of building this
,
,
Well the Idea makes sense but do those who are entrusted to undertake the renovation job have the ability to do so? The question shall be answered in few years time.
.
.
For sure one thing the competition is stiff here. Winner takes it all. Losers gain nothing. The winner will continues to take everything years after years showing a clear cut result.
.
.
A strong knowledge, experience and the ability to observe the changes is needed to counter this. A simply DIY would be disaster. This is a War Zone. The fittest will survive. Not a play ground for amateurs.
.
.
There are so many revamps needed which I called it even this is a totally new building. This is because the initial design was not …………..,…….,…….,…….,…….
The roving yard………..The Pillars………….
.
.
There are lots of additional things to be add or erected to make it conducive. There are many hacking to be done too. Otherwise it is very hard to make a good micro.
.
.
Bear in mind that you are competing directly with all these farms here. Everything from your farm has to be good. Be it the design, the micro, sound system, planks, etc. Then only your farm could stand out amongst others.
If not why should the birds stay at your farm instead of those around? There is not only one farm in this Park there are so many of them. The best one will attract all the Birds. This is the truth.
.
.
Good Luck!

It was a hectic month running between the North and Central. I am so tired probably could drop dead. Few farms waiting to be completed hopefully could start the sound in the middle of this month. Obviously the owners can't wait for it. They thought that sealing up windows and having Cd sound played birds would make nests. It is not as easy as most would think. I need to educate and teach them. There are so much more to learn.
.
.
The pictures above are one of the farms that I am doing in the North. The concrete works had been completed. Now there is some cement plastering works. Once all had been done then the installations of nesting planks will be next. I am trying to complete this in 2 weeks time. I could have done it earlier but running between so many farms it has taken lots of my time. Never mind I will do it on my own pace making sure it will turn out to be a good farm.
.
.
I have been doing wiring and tweeters installation on some of these farms on my own. The job was supposed to be done by my Indon workers but unfortunate the one that handles the wiring job had admitted to Hospital for Dengue. What to do, I have to complete it as this is my commitment and responsibility to the farm’s owners.
The DK was designed in a way to accommodate the flying path of the birds. Too big of a DK would cause brightness and disliked by birds. Too small restricted the flying circle of Swiftlets. An appropriate pre- planned size according to the design would be good.
Hope all of you can learn something about the size of DK. If the DK is perfectly done Swiftlets will flying in easily and stay longer in the roving before flying deeper into the nesting areas.
Otherwise you would see Swiftlets reluctant to fly in or go in few second and exist immediately even you had played a good cd sound.
Shall update about the above farms when it near completions.
Good Luck.
