Rain..Rain..Rain..

I was in the South monitoring the construction of a Standalone Swiftlet farm. The rain hampered the works. There would be delay because the workers only managed to work half day due to heavy down fall in the afternoon.

I have not visit the site for almost a week now because of my other farm construction in all over Malaysia

Nevertheless they are trying hard to complete it in 2-3 months time. I anticipated if the rain continues over a month then the project would take longer time to complete.

I have to verify things here and make sure the works accordance to what I had planned.

The site of this Stand alone is located in an area surrounded by Palm Oil Plantations. Few hundred meters away there are many Chicken farms. The farm takes advantage of its surrounding which produces many insects.

Food and water sources are important in swiftlet farming I mean natural ones. If there are plenty of food and water it would attract lots of birds. Therefore location plays important parts in Swiftlet farming.

If you found a good location then the second step is how to build a good farm that could attract many birds to stay and make nests and continue to sustain.

1) Location (the surrounding, greenery, rivers, pond, other farming activities, etc)

2) Design (size of farm, height, positioning of entrance hole, walls, structural, etc)

3) Material (type of bricks, insulating material, planks, cement, etc)

4) Control (Aroma, sound, humidity, temperature, light density, etc)

5) Manage (when to harvest, harvesting plan, nest quality, Pest control, etc.

All of the above have to come together and all are interrelated. Any of the above is not properly implemented and control then it would affect the entire farm system.

So don’t be too focus on only 1 or 2 of the above. It has to be taken as whole.

If you don’t understand you could always email me. Please send your photos if you could so that I could give you some advise.

Good Swiftlet Farming All. The Best is to Share!
