These pictures were given by a friend from Vietnam. Beautiful White Nests in Cave.

He got to know me from my Blog and later we become good friend. He builds Swiftlet farm for people and runs a Shop selling Edible Bird Nests in Ho Chi Minh City.

He travels frequently to K.L, whenever he is in town we would meet up and discuss about Swiftlet farming and how to do it best in Vietnam. .

From the information he provides and thru our discussion, Swiftlet farming in Vietnam is different from other South East Asia countries though there are some similarities.

In depth understanding of the birds’ behavior (how they fly) would help in Bh designs. With my advice, he had tried 2 types of design which consist of Dk and Open Roof for his Bhs. And discovered one of them outperforms the other.

I call it localization because Vietnam is in a different geographical area. Bh designs that could be use in other countries may not work in Vietnam unless it has been modified.Building structure and material use are different too due to its sub tropical weather which has heavy rain and cooler towards the end of the year.

In the Northern of Vietnam Swiftlets are adapted to temperature below 20C during year end. With such understanding of the environment and geographical area it helps us to come out with a good design that suit a particular area. Choosing the right type of Entrance, its size, the equipments use, etc is vital if we want to have a successful Swiftlet farm.

Though there are many birds in Vietnam but not all Swiftlet farms there are successful. Only those Bhs that had been designed to accommodate what birds’ wants would make it.

Enjoy the pictures.

Good swiftlet farming ALL
