Why I Found Swiftlet Eggs On Bh's Floor?

Egg drop on floor is common. Don’t be surprised when you find eggs on your Bh' floor. It is a natural occurrence. It is common to see 10%-20% of eggs dropped from nests in all Bhs.  The main causes include accidental ejection by the adult (cause by panic), narrow and shallow nests, etc.

Incubating Swiftlets normally sit facing the planks or wall with tail and wings projected over the edge of the nest. When there is predator or there is a shock that create panic they leap off the nest to make a sideway turn. The powerful flip of the wings create strong lift, this is where the eggs are tossed out from the nest.  The egg is incubated between the adult legs. The panic flight which cause the egg caught between the feet, a sudden powerful lift and turn sideways would easily toss eggs out from the nests.

Shallow and small nest has higher chances of loosing egg compared to a deeper rounded nest. From here we could clearly understand why birds prefer to make nest at 90dg corner of the plank.

Corner nest is deeper, because of its deepness it is rare to have egg tossed out. You can check and observe it yourself. Therefore many old timers (old sifu) discourage the use of corner board. They knew this would help to increase the population fast especially for new Bh but they didn’t know the reason behind it. It needs observation and research to discover this.

What causes the panic flight? Predators such as Owl, Rats, Geckos and without forgetting the way we enter the Bh(ourselves to be blamed) caused the panic flight.

If you find many eggs on the floor of the Bh more than normal you should check and find out, it could be predators. They could have entered the Bh. Check for sign of predators.

Secondly the ways we enter the Bh, I am sure different people or Sifu have different ways of doing things. Some say switch off the sound completely, some say it is OK to switch on the light, some say don’t switch off the sound and so on. So who is right and who is wrong? Well it is up to you to decide who you want to follow.

As for me I stick to common sense and what nature and the birds wanted. In order not to create a shock which mean a sudden appearance in a dark environment I would first stop the external sound. (I wouldn’t want to attract birds to fly into the Bh while I am inside). After 15 minute I reduce the volume of internal sound to 10% (minus 90%). This is to inform those birds and chicks inside there are still many friends flying around. I wait for another 15 minute then I would enter the Bh with a flash light. I prefer using warm light to reduce young birds in the Bh flying towards the flash light (White day light attract more birds). After moving around the Bh for a while by this time most of the birds would have fly out from the Bh then I would switch on the florescent lights in the Bh to do my work.

I discovered by this way it would reduce panic among birds. Of course some would do harvesting or repair works in Bh entirely relied on head light and flash light. Most importantly whatever ways you prefer make sure you don’t make the birds panic especially those that are sitting on the eggs.

如果你燕屋農場的情况类似 第1 ：燕子們將從您的燕屋農場移居到有更好溫度控制，和有更好屋内控制的鄰居燕屋農場。 您會看到越來越少的燕子和更缓慢的燕窩成長。而您的鄰居燕屋農場將看到更好的結果，還有燕窩適度的增加。

如果整個地区都是受到热季的影响 (第2 ：) 燕子們將移居到更加涼快和有下雨的區域。 在這個區域的燕屋農場將看見減少的燕子和燕窩。 那些沒有被適當做的燕屋農場將第一個受到影響的。 一般上，如果這樣的情况延長和变的更坏，所有的燕屋農場在同一個區域將受到影響，但是，那些被修造的很差的燕屋農場，在燕子群和燕窩的數量上的变化和那些有好内部控制的燕屋農場更大。

您可以做些什麼來減少热季的作用？

1) 增加燕屋農場的濕度 (增加使用潤濕器、噴水隆頭等等) 。

2) 放水桶在燕屋農場 。

3) 弄濕燕屋農場的地板

4) 控制通风孔(太多的通風孔將把外部的热气 (37度) 帶入燕屋農場。 太少會把薄霧变成熱的蒸汽。

5) 增加防熱材料在牆壁(外面)和天花板上。

Heat Wave - Less Swiftlet

Lately many Bh owners are complaining about seeing less birds in their Bhs, nests are getting smaller, slow increase of nests and so on.

Some readers had emailed me and some had called me personnel wanting to know what had happened.

I told them there is nothing to be worried, the previous 2 years was good it rains almost every day. There were plenty of birds everywhere in the sky. The nests were in good quality and good shape. Of course we can’t expect every year the same as this is nature which we have no control of. In fact I look at it as a good opportunity. This is the time of test. Testing how good we have built our Bh.

The Heat Wave is here and the Meteorological Department expected it to continue till September. That is 5 months from now. Could your Bhs withstand it?

Bhs that are simple built without understanding heat control, ventilation and insulation properties are the first to be affected by this Heat Wave.

Heat Wave causes migration of Swiftlet. There are 2 types of migration.

1) From Bhs to Bhs.

a) Rising internal temperature cause by heat penetrating thru walls, ceiling, etc.

b) Movement of hot air from outside (36-38C) into the Bhs 

c) Because of A &B factors the RH would drop tremendously.

d) Saliva of birds easily dried up making it hard for them to build nests.

e) Young birds may not survive due to the high internal temperature.

2) From Areas to Areas

a) Less food (insects & flies) during this period.

b) Birds have to venture to areas that have rain.

c) Biologically they would delay their breeding period, Possibility of reducing in brooding.

d) Take longer time to raise young chicks..

If yours Bhs condition is similar to No: 1 then swiftlets from your Bh would migrate to your neighbor’s Bhs that have lower temperature with better micro control. You would see less and less birds and slow growth in nests. While your neighbor’ Bhs would see better result with moderate increase in nests.

If the whole geographical area is affected by the Heat Wave (No: 2) birds would migrate to areas that are cooler with rain. Bhs in such area would see nests and birds population reduced. Those Bhs that are not done properly would be the first to be affected. In general if such condition prolonged and become worse all Bhs at the same area would be affected, but the changes in birds’ population and number of nests of those poorly built Bhs would be greater than those Bhs that have good internal control.

What can you do to reduce Heat Wave effects?

1) Increase RH in Bhs (increase the use of Humidifiers, water sprinkler, etc)

2) Put water in bucket in Bh

3) Wet the floor of the Bh

4) Control Ventilation Holes (Too many Vent-Holes would bring outside hot air (37C) into the Bh. Too few would turn the mist into hot steam.

5) Add insulation materials on wall (outside) and ceiling that are hot.

KUALA LUMPUR - The current heat wave and dry weather enveloping many parts of the country is expected to continue at least until September.The Malaysian Meteorological Department forecasting director Saw Bun Liong said the nation was experiencing a combination of weather factors that had led to the current hot weather.

He said the annual southwest monsoon usually caused hot and dry weather but the arrival of tropical storm Aere in the Philippines and the low pressure system in the Indian Ocean were contributing to higher temperatures.

Although the heat wave may continue, Saw said the worst might be over as Aere was now moving north.

Temperatures this month reached a high of 36.2ºC last Friday, recorded in Subang while the temperature here reached 36ºC yesterday.

The hottest day in the nation was recorded on May 18, 1998, when temperatures reached 38.9ºC in Chuping, Perlis and 38ºC in Malacca.

"We will still see lower levels of rain and more dry spells in the months ahead due to the southwest monsoon season which is expected to last until September," he told the New Straits Times yesterday.

During this season, northern peninsular states, Sabah and parts of Sarawak are expected to see lower rainfall in the next two months.

In June, Limbang and Miri are expected to see between 20 and 40 per cent below average rainfall, while slightly below average rainfall is also expected in Labuan, West Coast and the interior divisions in Sabah.

Normal rainfall is expected to resume in all states in September.

Deputy director-general of health Dr Lokman Hakim Sulaiman said the hot weather could cause serious problems like heat stroke, which can be fatal.

He said people most at risk were those above 40 years old as they were 10 times more at risk than younger people.

He added that children below five years were also at greater risk, as with those suffering from breathing and heart problems, high blood pressure, diabetes and thyroid problems.

Dr Lokman also discouraged wearing tight and thick clothing as it prevented heat from escaping through evaporation .

He said people should be on the lookout for heat exhaustion symptoms like headaches, lethargy, poor concentration, dizziness, cramps and nausea.

"It's serious as the heat can cause dehydration, confusion and coma."

He advised people to drink plenty of water, including isotonic drinks, stay indoors, limit outdoor activities, have frequent rests, bathe or use fans to cool down, use light, loose and bright clothing and to use hats or umbrellas outdoors.

Dr Lokman also advised against consuming sweet drinks and also those with caffeine and alcohol.

He also cautioned parents on leaving children in cars with closed windows and exercising in hot weather.

Those with severe heat exhaustion should also seek immediate medical treatment at the nearest clinic or hospital.

一個老朋友告訴我他如何在一個星期内抓捕3頭貓頭鷹。 (我有我自己除掉貓頭鷹的方式，但是您不會想知道的)。 它是有点殘酷的。 它是一件不好的事，但是您必須這個做否者您所有的燕子將跑掉。

差不多4個月了都沒有燕窩增量在他的燕屋農場。 他檢查了所有的屋内環境等等並且找不到差錯。 他在燕屋農場的入口從晚上7點等到9點，等了整整一個星期，但是沒有看到掠食性動物的影蹤。

那到底出了什么问题?

他曾经是一個熱中的漁夫，喜歡釣魚也是他許多愛好之一。 他曾经到過亞洲各地的許多渔村來旅行釣魚。 有时在那裏過了幾個星期的時間。 他告訴我他在遼囯的魚村，在看了漁民如何在水流很急的瀑布捉魚之後得到了這個想法。

我再問他，如果貓頭鷹被鉤到了，因為它不會立刻死，它將拍動它的翅膀並且努力嘗試飛行逃脫，那也可能需要几天的時間它才可以死於失水。這將影響或把那些想飛入燕屋農場的燕子吓跑嗎。

他說如果您想要安裝勾子陷井，您必須經常到您的燕屋農場。 在他的情况下，他每隔一天就到他的燕屋農場，因為他的燕屋農場位于離他家不遠的地方，短短半個小時的車程。他的燕屋農場旁邊也有一個鄰居，如過有任何東西在入口洞时，他們將會通知他。(他的燕屋農場是狗洞類型)

他說在第1個星期所有的貓頭鷹都被撲捉了。 之后第2個和第3個星期是沒有了。 他在第3個星期就把陷井拿下來。 從那以后3頭貓頭鷹被撲住了，他的燕屋農場是回到平常一樣，每個月都有增加的燕窩。

我還問他，在您安裝勾子陷井之前，那些CCTV不是可以把飛入燕屋農場的貓頭鷹錄下來嗎。 他回復，我重復的看了很多遍，把所有的CCTV紀錄都看了也看不到什麼在那裡。我未曾想到有貓頭鷹的問題在我的燕屋農場，直到3頭貓頭鷹被撲抓到。

那些有貓頭鷹問題的人也許可以设法使用勾子陷井。 對于我，我仍然相信它將影響燕子。 但是貓頭鷹對勾子陷井…勾子陷井勝利。

(筆記： 使用40磅或更高的清澈魚綫。 好品牌的鱼钩，因為它是更加鋒利和更強的。)

我未嘗試過勾子陷井。你們可以嘗試它然後給我一些反饋。

You Decide Which To Use?

An old friend told me how he captured 3 Owls in a week. (I had my own way of getting rid of the Owls, but you wouldn’t want to know). It is a bit cruel. It is a bad thing to do but somehow you have to do it or else all your Swiftlet will be gone.

There was no nest increases in his Bh for almost 4 months. He had checked all the micros, etc and found no fault. He waited at his Bh entrance from 7 -9 pm for a week but see no sign of Predators.

So what could be the problem?

He was an avid fisherman who used to do lots of fishing which is one of his many hobbies. He used to travel to many fishing villages all over Asia to fish. Sometimes spending weeks there. He told me he got this idea from a village of Laos after seeing how the villagers there catch fishes at the rapid water fall.

I asked him wouldn’t this would also affect or injure those Swiftlets. (Some of the swiftlet may get hooked). He explained, he only put the Hook Traps there for a short period. Once the Owls are gone he would remove the hook traps. He said so far there were no swiftlet feathers on the floor of the trap neither on those hooks. There were no dead birds around the floor of the entrance hole too. This indicated the Birds are smart enough to avoid the Hook Traps.

But somehow I still believe it would affect the birds. If given the situation of “Owl invasion versus the Hook Traps injury to Swiftlets”. The Owls invasion would do greater damage to the Bh. Furthermore The Hook Traps is not for permanent use. He installed the traps for 2 weeks to a month until the colony of the Owls that invaded the Bh is captured. After that it will be removed.

I asked him again, in the event if an Owl is hooked as it won’t die instantly it would still flap its wings and struggle to fly to escape this might take days before it dies from dehydration. . Wouldn’t this would affect or scare away those swiftlets in the Bh those that try to fly in.

He said if you want to put the Hook Traps you have to visit your Bh often. In his case he visits his Bh every other days because his Bh is located not far from his house, a short 30 minute drive. He also has a neighbor next to his Bh, they will inform him when there is something at the entrance hole.(His Bh is a Dog Kennel type)

He said all Owls were caught in the 1st weeks. Thereafter the 2^nd and 3 rd weeks there were none. He removed the Traps on the 3^rd weeks. Ever since 3 Owls were caught now his Bh is back to normal with nests increase every month.

I asked him, didn’t the CCTV capture those Owls that fly into your Bh before the Hook Traps were installed.

He replied, I have replayed and viewed all the records of the CCTV there was nothing there. It never came to my mine that there was Owl problem in my Bh until all 3 were captured.

Well for those who have Owl problem may try to use the Hook traps. For me I still believe it would affect the birds. Then again Owl VS Hook Traps …HooK Traps win.

(Note: Use clear fishing line of 40 pound or more. Good Branded fishing hooks as they are sharper and stronger.)

I have not tested the Hook Traps yet.You guys out there may try it out and give me some feedback.

一開始，燕屋主把2樓和3樓轉換成燕屋農場，或許他會把底层变成燕屋農場，但是那大概是一或兩年的時間。 這已經被計劃了，我們已經打開了一個互連洞並且用稀薄的水泥密封了它，以便將來可以容易地拆開。

我對屋内環境的控制感到很满意，雖然外面的温度上升到39度，但是内部2楼卻保留在29度。 對于第1楼溫度是28度。 這些是天花板的溫度而不是牆壁的溫度。 牆壁的溫度是在27-28度之間。

我們達到了這個目標因爲使用了雙層红砖和保麗瓏。 目的就是要穩定溫度不管天氣熱或寒冷特別是在晚上和雨季期間。

當我們在那裡时，我們在市鎮的附近遊覽並且检查那裡燕子的活動。 炎热的天气，通常並非有很多的燕子在附近。 它們一定是飛到更加涼快的地方尋找食物。

I was in Kelantan yesterday. The weather was very hot with beautiful blue sky.. As usual for the month of April which is after the monsoon. The outside temperature rises up to 39C. There are not many birds’ activities except in the morning and late evening when the temperature is lower.

My construction of a 3 storey Bh (standalone) at Tanah Merah is 90% completed. That planking, sound system and some partitioning works will start soon.

I was there to see the progress of the construction works at the same time to plan out the planking, sound system and some partitioning works. I had already knew what’s needed to be done but to be precised I need to do a double check especially the light density from the open roof entrance.

For the start the owner will convert the 1^st and 2^nd floor into a Swiftlet farm, later perhaps he may also turn the ground floor into Swiftlet farm but that would be a year or two later from now. This had been planned as we had already opened an interhole and sealed it back with thin cement for future easy hacking.

I am satisfied with the Micro control with rising temperature outside of 39C the internal remains at 29C that is the 2^nd floor. As for the 1^st floor the temperature is 28C. These are the ceiling temperatures not wall temperatures. The wall temperature is about 27-28C.

We achieved this with double layered red brick and Styrofoam. The purpose is to stabilize the temperature immaterial the weather hot or cold during night and monsoon season.

While we were there we tour around the town and check out the birds activities there. Hot weather, not many birds around this is usual. They must have flown away to places that are cooler to look for food.

I seldom meet up with my readers when I am doing Bh visiting as my schedule is often tight. One of my readers from Kelatan wanted to meet up with me. The day before he had called me, he wanted the B-52 and Havoc-9 sound for his new Bh which has just operated for a couple of weeks. He complained that not many birds stay in his Bh. He suggest, since I will be in T.Merah would it be troublesome for me to meet him. I told him that I would try my best and if I have time I would meet him for a short while.

I reached K.Bharu in the morning by the time I had completed my task it was already 3.30 pm. We haven’t had our lunch yet. Spending many hours at the Bh without realizing we need to have lunch. The owner must be very hungry and I guess as I didn’t mention about lunch so he wouldn’t dare to ask me.

I have totally forgotten about lunch as well as the guy from Kelantan which I supposed to call. Fortunately he called me at 3.45pm. This strike my mind, we need to eat. So I suggested that we meet at one of the restaurants in T.Merah town.

While we met I asked him “Why are you so keen to have my sound (B52 & Havoc-9)?”

He replied, “Mr. R from Besut recommended and he said your B-52 is crazily good!” (Si Encik .R dari Besut kata suara walet u B-52 Bagus Gila-gila.)

I am happy to hear that. I explained to him the differences between external and internal sound. I taught him how to tune the Amplifier and adjustment the volume. I told him I could only spend half an hour with him as I wouldn’t want to miss my flight to K.L  I told him I would like to teach him as much as he wanted but time doesn’t permit it. If he has any questions he could always call me or we shall meet again next time.

I need to be in the Airport before 5.45 pm, from T.Merah to K.Bharu takes about an hour drive .By the time we finished our discussion it was already 4pm plus.

It was a rushing trip but I had managed to complete all my tasks. Best of all I didn’t miss the flight.

建立您自己的燕屋农场不是一个容易的事

當他巧遇到我的部落格时， Z先生要求他的承包商立刻停止工作。 這是3个星期前的事。 他不知道有那么多的事使需要做的，直到他讀了我的部落格。他讀的越多他就越發現有太多的事情是不到位的。

毫不猶豫地他立刻打了个电话给我。 他不想要建立一个会让他遺憾的燕屋农场。 當他联系到我的时候，他的燕屋农场已經幾乎80%完成除了伴音系统和一些电线工作。

我告诉Z先生，我只可以在3個星期之后才可以去他的燕屋农场。 這個週末我將会是在北部，跟着我会在沙撈越，然后再下个星期在吉兰丹的。 我很希望他可以等，要不然我是没办法帮他。

Z先生同意等待。 他說「等待几个星期好过等待几年都等不到燕窝」。 他是有理由的。

Z先生的燕屋农场位于N.Sembilan，一个3層樓的商店，顶部2层都被轉換成燕屋农场。 所有的分成，磚和板条都已經被完成了。 我是被雇佣来設定他燕屋农场的伴音系统。 創造一个类似老燕屋农场有許多燕窝的環境是很重要的。 立體聲系統是非常重要的。

Z先生对伴音系统知道的很少，或許對他来说所有的伴音系统和燕子聲音是相同的。 我想还有許多的人还是有共同的看法。

他花了好几个星期的时间来讀完我部落格里所有的文章，之後他就改变了他的認為和观念。

Z先生是一個非常有耐心的人，在燕屋农场里我们就是需要这样的人。

當在他的燕屋农场时，我在那排商店的附近走走。 有几间燕屋农场在同一排和只有一间特殊吸引多数的燕子。 根據Z先生那间燕屋农场已经操作差不多有3年的时间了。 通过看看那些燕子的时刻我可以知道這个燕屋农场是做得相当好。 因此，我現在的計劃是從這个特殊的燕屋农场尽量吸引那些小燕子飛到Z先生的燕屋农场，然后使它们永久停留。

虽然我只是做20%的工作伴音系统，其他的整修工作已經完成了。 我很诚恳地告訴Z先生我可以尽量吸引它們來和停留，但是燕屋农场的設計，屋内环境等等必須是同樣好的。

當我那裡計劃伴音系统的安裝时，我發現了在燕屋农场的設計有少量的錯誤。 雖然不是我的責任，它是由其他人完成並且設計的，但是我不可能保持安靜而不告诉他。 它是对Z先生不公平的。 他需要知道什麼是对，和什麼是不对的。他是否打算再做装修那是他的決定。

燕屋农场是一個開放屋頂類型。 開放的是太小了只有4x5尺，我会比较喜歡至少有10x10尺。

他應該做了狗洞型，因為那裡顶级的燕屋农场是狗洞型。 我告訴了他。 通风系统也是另外一個問題和…. 还有其他。 我解釋了所有的缺點給他听，現在完全是由他決定。

我瞭解他听了我的解釋之后的感觉，但是燕屋农场的装修和建筑工作已經完成了。

那么我們就看看它怎麼是。 有时候还是不知道一切事情最好。 不知道可以使人感受更好。有時后真相是很残酷的。 這是燕屋农场它的真相不僅是残酷，有时候还是很吞得下。

我尽量把我的部分做到最好。

Building your Own Swiftlet Farm is Not an Easy Thing

Mr. Z asks his contractor to stop works immediately when he stumbles upon my blog. This was 3 about weeks ago. He didn’t know there were so many things needed to be done until he reads my blog. The more he reads the more he discovered that there were more things which are not in place.

Without hesitation he calls me immediately. He wouldn’t want to build a Swiftlet farm that would make him regret later. By the time he managed to contact me his Swiftlet farm already almost 80% completed except the sound system and some wiring works.

I told Mr. Z that I could only visit his Bh 3 weeks from now. This weekend I will be in the North, the following week I will be in Sarawak and then Kelantan. I would be very happy if he could wait otherwise nothing much I could do.

Mr.Z agreed to wait. He said “it is better to wait for few weeks rather than later having to wait for years without nests”. He has got a point here.

Mr. Z’s  Bh is located in N.Sembilan, a  3 storey shop where the 2 upper floors were converted into Swiftlet farm. All the partitioning, bricks and the planking works already completed. I was engaged to set up the sound system for his Bh. It is important to create an environment that is similar to an old Bh that has lots of nests. The surround sound system is very important.

Mr.Z knows very little about sound system, perhaps to him all sound systems and birds sounds are the same. I guess there are many out there shared the same view.

He changed his thinking and perception after reading my blog that took him weeks to read finishes all my articles.

 Mr.Z is a very patient person, this is what we need in Swiftlet farming.

While visiting his Bh I walked around the roll of shop houses where his Bh is located. There are few Bhs at the same roll and one particular Bh attracted most birds. According to Mr. Z that Bh has operated for almost 3 years. By looking at the birds’ moment I could tell this Bh is doing pretty well. So my plan now is to attract those young birds from this particular Bh to fly into Mr.Z’s Bh and stay permanently.

Since I am only doing the 20% job which is the sound system where other renovation works had already completed. I sincerely told Mr.Z that I could attract them to come and stay but the design of the Bh, the Micro, etc have to be equally good.

While I was there planning the setting up of the sound system I’ve discovered few errors in the Bh design. Though it is not my responsibility as it was done and designed by others but I can’t keep quiet without letting him know. It is not fair to Mr. Z. He needs to know what is right and what is wrong. Whether he intended to re-do it or not it is all up to him.

The Bh is an Open roof type. The opening is too small about 4x5ft, I would prefer a 10x10ft at least.

He should have done a Dog Kennel as the top Bh there is a Dog Kennel type. I told him about it. The ventilation system is another problem and …. So on. I explained all the flaws to him and now it is all up to him.

I do understand how he felt after my explanations but the Bh renovation and construction works had already completed.

Well we would see how it goes. Sometimes it is better not to know too many things. Not knowing would make people feel better. The truth sometimes is bitter.  This is swiftlet farming the truth is not only bitter but it is also hard to swallow.

I will do my best on my part.

Love Potion 的力量

今天早上我是蛮清醒的，因為昨天晚上我去了一个亲友的婚前晚宴。 和平常一样少不了「饮胜」。

我的電話响了又响，我沒有回答。 有這么多的電話。 和平常一样我會回所有的电话。

我总是打出现较多在我電話里的号码。 它是從Klang的L先生。 他是非常兴奋的。 他在他的燕屋农场發現了少量新的燕窝。 這是，他第一次在开始了一年多的燕屋农场看見燕窝他的燕屋农场。

他在一個月前才開始使用Love Potion的。 我仍然記的他告訴我他每个月都使用了哪些奇怪氣味的芳香，大约一年的时间了，並且什么都沒有發生。 他是非常失望的，並且想做一些事来扭转他的燕屋农场。

那时他發現了我的部落格並且打了电话给我。 通过我們的交談，我要求他嘗試Love Potion。 起初他对Love Potion是非常不乐觀的，因為早前他使用哪奇怪气味的芳香让他失望了。

我给L先生一个很簡單的忠告就是， 「L先生，您不会有什么损失的，因为您的燕屋农场还没有燕窝，也没有燕子屎。不如买一瓶Love Potion，噴洒在环绕区和造窝区。 把日期記錄下來，然后在4個星期后再檢查您的燕屋农场。 如果有好现象继续使用它，否則您可以停止使用它。 當您看到好现象时，您一定要坚持使用的。」

在4個星期之后，今天早上他打了电话给我，很多次没接到的電話。

`James，許多燕子进进出出在入口洞，还有很多在外面玩。 现在我的燕屋农场有燕窝了。 我想要再顶更多的Love Potion，我將会继续使用它。非常谢谢。 我丟失了您的银行户口，请sms我您的户口現在我要tt錢給您。 」

我是非常替他高兴他在他的燕屋农场看見燕窝了。 上述情況， L先生最後使用了正确的芳香。 現在在市場上有許多芳香。 我肯定你們不知道哪個是好的，哪個是壞的，还有哪個是有潛能殺害您的燕屋农场。

因此，選擇正确的芳香是很重要的。 好的芳香里有許多难寻的成份。 常常您在市場上會看到新品牌的芳香。 一些可能是用会殺害和排斥燕子的材料，甚至生產商本身也没发现體會到而被做的。

说到此我要补充，大约4個月前我的顧客開始了他Bkt. Beruntung的燕屋农场。 他每月都使用Love Potion(每3個星期一次)。 在第4個月内，有許多燕子屎與羽毛在地板上，並且还有少量新燕窝的標號。 他是非常高兴的，甚至老远跑來到Shah Alam请我吃午餐。 (那是一个堅持的邀请…)。 他想要感謝我做創造了Love Potion。 因此，我必須挤出一些时间與他吃午餐。

最近他再打电话给我並且发泄他的哀痛。 根據他，所有的燕子離開了，只是留下一些被造半杯的燕窝，那儿沒有新的燕子屎堆。 原因是他听了他的一些得力助手的忠告，使用了鴨蛋和一些其他混合物的芳香，涂抹在他燕屋农场的牆壁上。 結果所有的燕子离开了。 那不止，現在甚至没有一只燕子敢飛近他的燕屋农场的入口洞附近。 氣味是可怕的..... 許多人相信燕子鳥臭味或有臭味的氣味，这是不正當的察覺。 

实际上，我在5年前有寫过關於避免使用鴨蛋在我的部落格(您可以去檢查看看)。

现在他必須重新開始洗滌和洗干净他的燕屋农场Bh好像從头開始一样。

The Power Of Love Potion

I was quiet sober this morning as I came back late yesterday from a relative pre-wedding dinner. As usual the “Yam Seng” thing.

My phone rings and rings, I didn’t answer. There were so many missed calls. As usual I would return all calls later.

I always call the number that appeared the most on my phone. It was Mr.L from Klang. He was extremely excited. He has discovered few new nests in his Bh. This is the first time he see nests in his Bh after a year of operation.

He has only started to use Love potion about a month ago. I still remembered he told me that he had used an Aroma which smells weird on a monthly basis for about a year and nothing happened. He was extremely disappointed and wanted to do something to turn around his Bh.

He found my blog and called me. Thru our conversation I asked him to try Love potion. At first he was very pessimistic about Love Potion because earlier the weird smell aroma he has used have had disappointed him.

My advice to Mr.L was simple, “ Mr.L you have got nothing to lose since your Bh has no nests  neither it has birds shits. Just get a bottle of Love Potion, spray it at the Roving and Nesting area. Record the date down and check the Bh again after 4 weeks. If there is good sign continue to use it, otherwise you could stop using it. But you must be consistent when you see good sign”.

After 4 weeks he calls this morning with many missed calls.

‘James, so many birds flying in and out and play at the entrance hole. Now my Bh has nests. I want to order more Love potion and I will continue to use it.Thank you so much. I lost your account number please Sms your account number I want to tt money to you now. ”

I am very happy that he sees nests in his Bh . In the above case, Mr.L has finally used the right Aroma. There are so many Aromas in the Market now. I am sure many of you have no idea which one is good, which one is bad and which one could potentially kill your Bh.

So choosing the right Aroma is important. Good Aroma has many ingredients that are hard to obtain. Every now and then you would see new brands of Aromas in the market. Some are totally made from materials that could kill and repel birds which the producers themselves don’t even realized.

To add to this, about 4 months ago a customer of mine started his Bh in Bk.Beruntung . He uses Love potion on a monthly basis (every 3 weeks). Within the 4th months there were many birds’ shits spots with feathers on the floors and there were few new nests markings. He was very happy and came all the way to S.Alam to buy me lunch. (That was on an insisting basis) He wants to thank me for making and creating the Love Potion. So I have to squeeze out my time to have lunch with him.

Lately he calls me again and expressed his sorrow. According to him all the birds had left, some built half cup only and there were no more new bird shit spots.  Reason was he listen to his close aide who advices him to use DUCK EGGs with some other mixture as aroma to rub on the wall. As the result all birds left. That’s not all, now not even a single bird dare to fly near his Bh’s entrance hole. The smell was terrible….. Many were taken in to believe that birds love stinky/smelly odor, which was wrongly perceived. 

In fact I had written about avoiding Duck eggs 5 years ago in my blog (you may go and check it out).

Now the he has to wash and clean the Bh and start all over again from the start..

The bottom line “Know what you are using”.

3 層樓的燕屋農場完成了

上星期我是在Bintulu沙撈越，檢查我設計的3層樓燕屋農場的進展的。 承包商和燕屋主做了一個意想不到很好的工程。 我對他們所做的一切是非常高興和滿意的。做的非常好!


這個燕屋農場面對著開放綠色的領域和农业地区。 這裡主要本地的人是Iban人。 每天傍晚燕子都會在這個區域漫遊來尋找食物，因此入口洞是故意被設計面對綠色的領域。

當地人的屋子和他們的农场土地是對面燕屋農場的入口。

入口洞的高音揚聲器和外聲

入口洞的大小是剛剛好與高音揚聲器在兩旁和底部。

高品质的Meranti木板從西馬。 沒有木眼、沒有黑白色的斑點和最重要是沒有青苔。深紅色的顏色。

這裡高音揚聲器的安排是要創造一個活躍的內部合理環境。我不相信使用太多的高音揚聲器，因為它是太人為了。 理想的水平是最好的，我們總是相信在燕屋農場裏一切必须在平衡之間。 太少不好，太多也是壞的。 您可以很容易地發現在您的燕屋農場裏有許多證據會支持我的聲明的。 這並不是什麽火箭科学的東西，您可以自己看到的 ： 太熱的31度之上燕子是不會停留的，太冷25之下也是同樣的。 太高的濕度所有的燕窩將會變色，太乾的濕度65%所有的燕窩會破裂的。 太明亮燕子不會逗留，太暗的燕屋農場小燕子找不到它們的出口並且丧生在燕屋農場。

您明白了嗎？ 一切必须在最理想的水平。如果您仍然還是不明白我的意思那麽燕屋農場肯定不是您的爱好。

我有看過許多使用太多高音揚聲器的燕屋農場，甚至幾乎每個板條或每個板條箱内都有高音揚聲器。 我問他們為什麼？ 他們的回復是 " 我的師傅说的" ， 在一個大约1200方尺的地方竟然有250個高音揚聲器，是可笑的。

是的，我們經常看見燕子屎在高音揚聲器之下，這一定是啓發許多人認為越多高音揚聲器就越好(在某個程度下它是真實的，燕子的確喜歡垂懸在高音揚聲器)。 但是在燕屋農場裏並不是這样的。 如果更多高音揚聲器是绝對的解答，那麽在馬來西亞所有的燕屋農場都把高音揚聲器的數量增加，越多越好大概每平方一個，然後所有的燕屋農場在馬來西亞將是100%成功的，再也沒有失敗的燕屋農場。 (好了，好了，否則賣高音揚聲器的那些人一定對我感到非常不满因爲我陳述了這樣的聲明)。

它的相互洞是足够大來讓燕子能夠到達所有的層樓和足够小來防止光線和光亮。

別忘了用來排斥所有水泥氣味和同時吸引燕子进入燕屋農場修造燕窩的當务之急Love Potion。

第二個和第三個的入口洞到筑窩区域與P-9催眠內部聲音來吸引燕子停留和修造燕窩。

在聲音控制室有大馬力的Amp給每個層樓的。 有了這樣的設置所有3個層樓的所有內部聲音都能夠不停的播放24/7不出任何問題。

3 storey Swiftlet Farm Completed

 Last week I was in Bintulu, Sarawak  to check the progress of a 3 storey Bh that I had designed. The contractor and the owner did a fantastic job. I am very pleased and satisfied with what they had done. Good Job Done!

This Bh is facing an open green field and farming area. The local here are mostly Iban. Every evening Swiftlet would roam this area for food therefore the entrance hole are purposely designed to face the green field.

The size of the Entrance hole is just right with the tweeter at both side and bottom. 

High quality of meranti wood planks from West Malaysia. No wood eye, no black and white spots and definitely no fungus. Dark pink in color.

The tweeter arrangement here is to create a lively internal sound environment. I do not believe in to many tweeters because it is too artifical. Optimum level is the best, as we know in Swiftlet farming everything must be in balanced. Too little no good, too many is bad. You could easily find many evidences in your own Bh which would support my statement. This is not rocket science you could see it youself  Example: Too Hot 31C and above birds wont stay, Too cool below 25C the same. Too high Rh 100% all nests turn color , too dry Rh 65% all nests cracked. Too bright birds won't stay,  too dark young birds can't find their ways out and die in the bh.

So did you get it? Everything must be at optimum level .If you still don't get what I mean then Swiftlet farming is not your cup of tea.

I have seen and came across many Bhs using too many tweeters  to an extend of almost every planks or boxes between planks have tweeters. I asked them why? They replied "My Sifu said so" Some up to 250 tweeters for 1200sf that is ridiculous.

Yes often we see Birds shits below the tweeters, this must have transpired many people to think that the more tweeters the better (to a certain extend it is true that birds like hanging on tweeters). But in Swiftlet farming it doesn't work this way. If more tweeters is the absolute solution then all Bhs in Malaysia increase the Tweeters in their Bhs, as many as possible probably every square feet each then all Bhs in Malaysia would be 100% successful and there would be no failed Bh anymore. (OK that is enough, otherwise those who sell tweeters would be very angry with me for stating such statement).

The Inter hole is large enough for the birds to reach all floors and small enough to reduce light and glaring.

Without forgetting Love Potion which is a must to repel all the cement smell and at the same time to attract the birds to enter the Bh to build nests.

The second and third entrance hole to the nesting area with P-9 hypnotic internal sound to attract birds to stay and build nests.

The Sound control room with individual Hi power Amp for every floor. With such setting all internal sounds of all 3 floors could run 24/7 without any problem.

Swiftlets queuing up to enter Bh. There are thousands of them all jam up waiting to go in. Imagine this is your Bh. You would be the happiest man on earth.


This video was recorded around 8 pm thousand still coming in. Imagine how many birds are inside this Bh….lost count. If one has to count they have to start with 100..200…300.. per every second.

Their speeds are too fast for our Viewcam to record them in low light. If you see it live you really can’t believe your eye.

燕子排著隊进入燕屋農場。 有數千上萬的燕子等待著甚至阻塞整個燕屋的入口。 想像這是您的燕屋農場。 您將會是這個世界上最高興的人。


這錄影是在晚上8點左右記錄的，仍然還有上千的燕子进來。 想像一下有多少隻燕子是在這個燕屋農場裡面….完全是失去計數的。 如果一定要計算，他們必須從100..200… 300開始，是每一秒。

它們的速度是太快，所以我們的Viewcam只能用低灯來錄影它們。 如果您親自看到您不可能相信您的眼睛。

白色乾淨的燕窩

為了要有优良品质白色的燕窩，燕屋農場裏的濕度必須一直維持在80-90%之間，好的溫度控制，在燕屋農場裏應該有很小的空氣流通環境裡。 還有許多其他人也相信的因素，比如周围的環境、棲所、汙染等等的因素也會影響燕窩的質量。

经过我多年的經驗，我總是想知道，這些因素是否真正地有關係？ 那一個是真實，那一個是神話？

而濕度、溫度、板條材料和形成、聲音和芳香真正地是有關係的， 除了這些之外許多都是神話。

最近通过我多個月的實驗，我發現了一件簡單的事改變了我的想法关于要如何來創造乾淨白色的燕窩。

我之前有寫過文章關於使用塑膠網在壁角板上，您可以查查看我早先的文章。 一個簡單的塑膠網被安裝在壁角板上，結果燕子修造乾淨厚實還有美麗白色的燕窩在上面。 您可以看到照片我只是在四個壁角板的一邊安裝它，目的就是要看那些沒有用塑膠網之间的區別。 在2個月内，乾淨白色的燕窩就被修造了。 真正的很驚奇，那還不止。 塑膠網還可以幫助促進燕窩快速的制造。

當安裝塑膠網时，我也換了內部聲音到P-9。 我發現多数在市場上的內部聲音是太多干擾聲的。 多數都是沒有柔順的聲調。 多數是走調的而不會鎮定燕子(無論如何多數人都不會知道也不會注意到它)。 這也可以影響燕窩制造过程。 不鎮靜的燕子將制造品質不好的燕窩。(長形，稀薄，怪形狀，骯髒還有羽毛等等)

通过這個實驗，我發現不僅白色乾淨的燕窩被修造了，它也帮助小燕子快速地修造燕窩在有塑膠網的那些角落。

千萬要記住使用塑膠網和鋼網之间的大區別。 結果是很不同的。 它是很古怪的在燕屋農場「小小的改变总是帶來區大的結果」。

不要忘記安裝了這些塑膠網之後，噴上Love Potion在所有牆壁，在板條之下1-2尺 ft的地方。 您會看到更加快速和更好的結果。

Clean and White Swiftlet Nest

In order to have good quality White Nests the Rh of the Bh has to be at 80-90% constantly, good temperature control and there should be small movement of air in the Bh environment. Other factors which many believe the surrounding environment, the habitat, the pollution, etc also affect the quality of the nests.

 Thru my years of experiments I had always wanted to find out, are all these factors really matter?   Which one is true and which one is myth?

Yes  Rh, Temperature, Plank material and formation, sound and Aroma really play a part in it, other than that many are just myths.

Lately thru my many months of experiments I discovered one simple thing that changes my views on how to create clean white nests.  

I had posted about using plastic netting on corners on my previous article you may check it out. A simple plastic netting installed onto a corner board as the result birds build clean thick beautiful white nest on them. As you could look at the picture I only installed it on one side of the four corner boards, purposely to see the differences between those without the netting. Within 2 months a clean white nest was built. Really amazing that is not all. The plastic netting also helps young birds to build nests faster. It is absolutely a must for new Bh.

While installing the Plastic netting I also changed the internal Sound to P-9. I discovered most internal sounds in the market are too disturbed. There don’t have the smoothing tune in it. Most are out of tune that won’t calm the birds (anyway most won’t know or notice it). This would affect the nest building process. Birds that are not calm would build bad quality nests.( elongated, thin, out of shape, dirty with feathers, etc)

Thru this experiment I discovered that not only White Clean nests were built it also helped young birds to build nests faster on all those corners that have the plastic netting.

Bear in mind there are big differences between using plastic nets and steel nets. The results are different. It is always kind of weird in Swiftlet farming “little changes make big differences”.

Don’t forget after installed all these plastic netting spray Love Potion on all walls 1-2 ft  below the planks. You would see faster and better results.
