An owner of 4 year old BH called me yesterday impatiently wanting to know what temperature and humidity is. It is not funny. It is the truth. I had visited many Bhs, meeting with all sorts of Bh owners. You can’t imagine what people I had met. Sometimes it is really unbelievable what I heard. You would be totally shocked to know what they actually know.
I had concluded that not necessary a person who owned many BHs or have many successful BHs have vast knowledge in Swiftlet farming. Not necessary a person who had spent many years in Swiftlet farming posses good Swiftlet farming skills.
That is true!
“Hi James how are you? Are you free now? I have few questions for you.
“Oh Mr.L , I’m fine. Sure no problem. What do you want to know?”
“James what is Humidity?”
“What?.......can you repeat that again? Isn’t you the Mr.L who has BHs in N.Sembilan?”
“Yes I am. I am Mr.L, I want to know what humidity is.
“Humidity is the wetness of air or the water vapor in the air…like mist you know?
“You mean like a wet the floor?
“Well it could be like that but sometime a wet floor is not enough to increase the Humidity that we prefer.
“Then how to increase the humidity James?”
(I am already very patient, but on the other hand I was wondering is this guy trying to pull my leg..Never mind be patient).
“Well there are many ways to increase humidity. You can install Mist maker, Humidifiers, Water sprinkler, etc and there are many other gadgets in the market that help to increase humidity in Bh”.
“I thought that is for birds to play.Ok James I got it but what is the best level of humidity?”
“Mr.L you mean after 4 years and having many Bhs you still don’t know the best level of humidity in Bh? You must be kidding me. Are you trying to test me or you really don’t know?”
“James sincerely I don’t know. Otherwise I won’t be calling you”.
“Well Mr.L the acceptable level is 75% - 95% if you could maintain a constance level then it will be good.
“Oh I see what about temperature? If I increase the humidity will the temperature reduce or increase?”
“It depends there is a small correlation between temperature and humidity. It doesn’t mean humidity increases the temperature will reduce or via versa. It depends on the Vent-Hole, the walls of the Bh, the partitioning, the size of Entrance hole, the type of Bh design DK or OR…and so on”.
“Mr.James I am confuse”.
“Mr.L didn’t they teach you all these in seminars that you had attended?
“No Mr.James…”
“Then what did they teach you?”
“They teach about the type of Swiftlets . The EBN history………………………………………..”
“Oh my god. Never mind”.
This is the conversation between me and Mr.L. No kidding it is true how little those who had Bhs know.
So next time if you meet those who have many Bhs or those who have successful Bhs don’t be too happy thinking that you could learn from them. To your surprise you may know more than what they know.
They may throw few tricks and tips for you but those are “Try if yourself Works or Not I don’t Know”.
Good Swiftlet Farming All!
