( Initially all Vent holes are opened to allow air flow to clear the cement smell. Later on some of the Vent Holes will be closed to improve the Micro.)
( This shows birds had stayed. There are some fine feathers )
Ever since
the owl invasion in May, all the swiftlets had left this BH.
We had
installed sharp spikes at the entrance hole to prevent the owls from
perching. A week later, the owner took a
pump gun with him to book the owls invading the compound. He waited and waited but this time the owl did
not turn up.
I guess
some of the spikes might have poked some of the owls and this had frightened
them.
After all
had been done, last week we went to visit the Bh again. This time there are few patches of bird shit
in the BH. We were happy because it
shows that the owls are no longer going into the BH.
The bird
shit spots shows that there were from young birds, some with feathers. This time the birds had stayed. If everything
goes well, we should see some nests in 2-3 months’ time, a good sign
indeed. We had wasted a few months due
the owl invasion.
I told the
owner, now the Bh only starts rebuilding as before, the owls had chased all the
swiftlets away. In order to push up the bird population, we closed up some of
the ventilation holes to stabilize the Micro so that the humidity would go higher,
and at the same time spraying Love Potion on all walls at the roving and
nesting areas. This scent of Love Potion helps birds to fly into the Bh without fear so that
they will build nests.
We also changed
the external sound to pull and attract more birds. We do this in stages. We hope to see good improvements in a month
or two.
