Water Sprayed on the wall . A cave like environment cooling the wall and the Internal.
Low maintenance and cost effective
Controlled by a battery operated Water timer. Can be set to 8 watering time, from second to hour.
A water proof cover preventing birds Dropping from dirtying the LCD screen.
Poor little Swiftlet, fell from the nests. Taken to the control room .Skin and bone. This is the cause of starvation. She will not survive.
The Pollution Index went as high as 700 in many parts of Malaysia. It is beyond hazardous level and cause a serious health condition. It is advised to stay indoors until the API drops, but could Swiftlets stay indoors all the time?
Swiftlets spend most of their time roaming in the sky. As they fly, small particulates (350μg/m3) could log into the lung and cause infection. Long exposure to such condition is fatal.
Though they may escape by migrating, but there is still some percentage die from this hazardous condition. With the current situation worsening it is not surprising to see dead Swiftlets in farms.
The Haze affects the whole eco-system. Smoke kills insects preventing reproduction. Insects the food of Swiftlet is depleting. Starvation sets in, this can be observed in Swiftlet farms.
Chicks are pushed out from nests by their siblings, and eggs are rejected by parents a natural instinct of survival. The scarcity of food influenced all these behaviors.
Weak chicks and eggs are being sacrificed so that the remainder few could survive through this extreme period. Those left in the nests will have a greater chance to survive.
There will be more dead chicks and rejected eggs on the farm’s floor during this period.
Can we do something to help our Swiftlets the tenants that had helped us all this while?
Or would you rather sit and wait to watch them die?
These are the things that I am doing now (the least I could do for now) :
Increase the flow and the watering time of the water spray on the wall of my Swiftlet farm. Make sure the timers of the Humidifiers operate well to ensure the RH is at 85% at all time. Wet air brings down dusts, smoke and pollutant particles inside the farm.
Food is (Insects) scarce as the pollution Index rises. Use Insect Generating Powder To create additional food. This would reduce the number of chicks and eggs pushed out from nests. ( Due to starvation)
Hope the above information helps.
Good Swiftlet farming All!
