Months later he called again, and this time he wanted a dozen of 3rd Gen Love Potion and a set of External and Internal sounds. The last time I didn't ask him much about his Swiftlet farm as I was in a hurry to meet another reader. But what I did tell him was..." Just use it Mr.C..let me the outcome O.K".
This time I have to sit down with him to explain and teach him how to tune his Amplifiers as he is now using my sounds.
I told him he could ask anything pertaining to Swiftlet farming from the A-Z. He was amazed to hear this.
I asked him to brief me a little about his Swiftlet farm so that I could have some idea about it.
Mr. C had attended a few seminars and with confidence he undertook to build his first Swiftlet farm. I guess that is normal, confidence really helps but there are lots to be learned.
A 2 storey 22 x 90 located in Bentong at a fruit orchard. A wonderful location I could see it from his smart phone. Currently the Swiftlet farm is taken care by his father and younger brother. They don't believe in Aroma or sound. It has been almost 3 years now, and it has only 60 nests. Something must have gone wrong cited Mr.C.
( 3 entrances closed left 1 entrance hole now)
Mr.C decided to do something, he wanted to try the 3rd generation Love Potion. His father and younger brother weren't happy about his idea and were pessimistic about what he wanted to do.
Mr.C told me they mix with many local Swiftlet farmers around that area and been convinced that the only solution to become successful in Swiftlet farming is to wait. This time they have to let him call the shot because it had been 3 years with only 60 nests.
They are not totally wrong. They got a point there too...provided .. I repeat provided all had been done properly, correctly and perfectly then we could leave it to the time.
Knowing what you are waiting for is very much different from waiting for not knowing what's coming next.
That was a couple of months ago where he had bought 2 bottles of Love Potion. Now this is his repeated orders of 12 bottles. I ask what actually transpired this Mr.C?
He replied, "James my father said he had never seen so many Swiftlets came and play at the Swiftlet farm. This is the first time in 3 years so many birds flying inside the farm. He couldn't believe it. Now he wants me to order more Love Potion and of course your GS Swiftlet sound".
I am happy to hear that as I always believe in "seeing is believing".
Mr. C had brought along his Swiftlet farm floor plan to show me. I guess he wants to learn more. If he is willing to learn I am willing to teach.

(Red line shows Birds flying direction)
He opted for a Dog Kennel (DK) type with 4 entrance holes. (each side with an entrance). As I look at the plan I told him " Mr.C ...though there are 4 entrances, but the birds only choose one entrance hole to fly in and out."
He muted......and held back for a while before asking me "James how did you know that?"
Simple.... that is why all Swiftlet farms that I had built are with one entrance hole. Before building a Swiftlet farm I have already anticipated and knew the direction of the flying path birds preferred. Therefore, it helps me to locate the best place to place the entrance hole. I certainly don't do guessing game. I certainly don't open few entrance holes and later closing one by one to choose the best.
If one could not even decide and indecisive in choosing the best position for an entrance hole ..... What more could he do.... if he has to design the internal like partitioning, planking system, tweeter arrangement, etc..then all these skills are questionable.
As I look at the plan I told him birds would fly in from the left all the way to the end and make a right turn towards the 2nd entrance hole.
Yes, you are right James, I discovered all birds flying in from the left (entrance #1). Now I have closed all entrances and except entrance #1. Why do birds preferred entrance #1 James?
In order to make Mr.C understand I explained to him. Coming in from entrance #1 birds only need to make one turn before going through the 2nd entrance hole. If they flying in from #2 & #3 they have to make 2 turns before flying through 2nd entrance. If they use entrance #4 birds have to do somersaults which is the worst therefore entrance #4 is lease preferred.
Mr.C was so amazed with my explanation...and said "James they never taught me all these in seminars ".
Well what could I say.... All I could say is I had never attended any seminar in my entire life. How come I knew all these...ha..ha
I told him the 3rd entrance going to the Hall 2 should not be located in the middle as birds fly in a circular manner closer to the wall.
Mr. C couldn't catch what I say. To make him understand I told him all the 60 nests are built at area A & B in Hall 2. He was shocked...." James how did you know that? I didn't tell you where they were located".
Mr. C there is no magic here all are practical theories and skill acquired through my years of experience. The problem is people just want to build Swiftlet farm they do not know what constitutes a good Swiftlet farm. Let me show you why and with concrete facts.
Adopting 3rd entrance hole at the middle means light ..(Glaring) will hit area C making most sections in the middle uninhabited. Secondly it is not advisable to place an entrance hole in the middle because that is not the flying route of birds. You don't have to believe me. Go and check some Swiftlet farming books all are well written inside. Some of these books had been published since the 60's over and over again but people just don't get it.
With the entrance at the middle the only dark area left is section A & B...so where else could the birds build nests beside A&B.
Hall C is too small it should be 1/3 of the size of the farm. To be appropriate the 3rd entrance hole should be relocated to section A side.
The tweeters in Hall C are confusing so are those in the whole farm. There are so many things that needed to be done.
Why didn't I use Light weight brick? To me there are extremely artificial they don't adsorb water like a normal brick so you can forget about a natural moist release which is one of the most important factors in Swiftlet farming.
It was strongly recommended and promoted by some individuals many years back.. But as time passes by it takes its toll now. Claimed to withstand heat and reduces cost therefore most Swiftlet farms used it instead of relying on 2 layered brick walls.
Currently many Swiftlet farms that used the Light weight brick are having problems. As I had mentioned ...no moist release and the gaps between each brick have to be sealed properly otherwise air could pass through, and the whole internal micro would be affected.
Mr.C Swiftlet farm is using Light weight brick, and the Micro is quite a problem.
We had a good chat, I didn't realize that the good chat took 3 hours. Well if you are a Swiftlet farming enthusiast like me you won't feel bored even talking about it for 24 hours.
Mr.C told me he learned more in 3 hours (particularly in the aspect of technical) talking to me than what he had learned from 2 seminars of 2 days.
Well.....they do teach you the history of Swiftlet farming, ...blah.. bla...perhaps something about Admiral Cheng Ho...and lots of basic...what is Aerodromus Fuciphagus and EBN...but they don't teach you about how many degrees a Swiftlet will turn before they dive into the 2nd entrance hole.
Why do we need to learn and understand how birds fly?..... Because it will help us in designing a successful Swiftlet farm. (An appropriate size of an entrance hole and its position).
If Mr.C Swiftlet farm is built properly with the help of Love Potion, I believe it only needs one year to reach 100 nests...not 3 years 60 nests.
Now all Mr.C need to do is to revamp his farm and boost up the bird population with a 3rd generation Love Potion.
Good Swiftlet Farming All!
