His Swiftlet farm is located in Saratok, Sarawak. It has few hundred nests inside. He is also a regular user of Love Potion. The Hygrostat controls the humidifiers in his Swiftlet farm. He has relied on Hygrostat to control the humidity. Once the Hygrostat malfunction, the humidifiers wouldn't run.
Mr.Og claimed that the Humidifiers ran all the time. It seems once the Humidifier stopped the temperature would increase and the RH ( humidity) would drop so he has to rely on the Hygrostat.
I was shocked to hear that. I told him that I don't use Hygrostat in all my Swiftlet farms. None of my Swiftlet farms uses Hygrostat. They are using the normal timer that's all. All Rhs are stable registering 85-90%.
( Humidifier control by Hygrostat)
I prefer to use Red clay bricks as it absorbs moist and releases it through the process of vaporization. So it is a natural process. If one uses Lightweight brick ( or any artificial material as the wall) this process would be restricted and it needs the long hour of humidifying. This is one of the many factors that affects the Rh in a Swiftlet farm.
Secondly, the number of Vent-hole, lots of people misinterpreted the uses of Vent-hole. They use Vent-hole to reduce the temperature of a Swiftlet farm. With this misinterpreted principle, people tend to open more Vent-holes as the temperature of theirs Swiftlet farms increased.
Without the clear understanding of the usage of the Vent-hole, it affects the whole internal system. As the number of Vent-hole increases so does the movement of air in the farm. Bear in mind whatever comes in must goes out. This is the theory of pressure. As it goes, hot air from outside will flow into the farm and dry out the moist thus reducing the Rh.
(Malfunction Hygrostat)
All these valuable knowledge which I had learned through my many years of involvement in Swiftlet farming had helped me to build good and successful Swiftlet farms.
If the Humidifiers in your swiftlet farm operate more than an hour every session, it means the wall, insulation, Vent-hole, partitionings, entrance hole, second entrance hole,
etc all are not properly design and made.
When I told Mr.Og that I only switch on my Humidifiers averagely 2-3 times a day, running for 10-15 minutes each session ( subjected to season) and I could maintain the Rh at 85-90% he couldn't believe it. He wanted to know how I did it. I explained to him in detail the theory of vaporization and air pressure.
Like I've said Swiftlet farming is beyond science. You need to have good knowledge in order to be successful. You need to know beyond the basic.
