The Hygrometer is the least talk about gadget among all Swiftlet farming equipment. People pay little attention to it even though the survival of their farms relies on it. Most Swiftlet farmers know the best farming micro condition is 26-29C and Humidity at 80%-90 %RH ...but, do their Swiftlet farms meet this requirement?
Often when I visit Swiftlet farms 9 out of 10 don't have a hygrometer in it. They tend to assume their Swiftlet farms are within that acceptable range of condition. There is no guessing game here. If your Swiftlet farm micro is not in that range, chances are, your Swiftlet farm won't be successful. The readings help you to chart your course, the thing you need to do, what needed to be corrected, what needs to be controlled (in correlation with how many Vent-holes need to be closed or open), etc.
(HAAR SYNT HYGROMETER)
(HAAR SYNT HYGRO written on it)
Over the years I have used many types and brands of Hygrometers. I've discovered only a few are reliable. Not all Hygrometers you bought from the market are suitable for Swiftlet farming use. The TFA brand is the best among all but within the TFA brand, there is only 1 type which is suitable and reliable. There is two similar looking type. Both are round like a clock and cover with gold trimming. You may not be able to differentiate them if you are not serious enough about Swiftlet farming..hahaha. You may think they are the same as they looked alike but, they are not. The reliable one is with the HAAR SYNT HYGRO writing on it. The HAAR SYNT type is more accurate and precise in the reading. It is differently made.
(NON HAAR SYNT HYGRO. Without the HAAR SYNT HYGRO writing)
The Normal TFA Cross type has its setback. The problems arise when the two needles got stuck. This occurred when the readings go too high or too low, it crosses each other and sometimes stuck in the middle. The readings are less accurate. But both are selling at the same price.
Many people think they are the same but, they are not.
Those who had used the LCD digital before knew the limitations. But, it has some advantages. Big LCD display easy to see and some of them even have lights on the LCD display. Unfortunately, they are not built and designed for Swiftlet farming use. The environment of the Swiftlet farm will kill this type of Hygrometer. The wet ( high humidity) and warm environment would shorten the lifespan of the Hygrometer. The LCD screen turns dark due to high % RH. The battery console joint gets rusted easily. It damaged the positive and negative contact points in the battery console. The batteries don't last long in such environment. Some barely last 3 months. If it lasted, batteries have to be changed every 2 -3 months. Furthermore, it is expensive.
Furthermore, the Digital Hygrometer readings are not as accurate as the HAAR SYNT hygrometer.
So choose wisely next time when you look for a Hygrometer for your Swiftlet farm. An accurate reading will help you in maintaining your Swiftlet farm well. Don't take it lightly. Everything in the farm counts.
GOOD SWIFTLET FARMING ALL!
