THEFT......YOU CAN'T AVOID

With the current rise of price of the Raw Birds Nests, theft has been rampant. You can't escape from this if you have successful Swiftlets farms. My Swiftlets farms were broken into again. The thieves seemed to know which one to go for. In the past 3 months, they have broken into the same Swiftlets farm 3 times. It was well planned. It must have been done by the people from the same industry and executed by professionals. They know exactly when to go in and with right timing. As if the Swiftlet farms belong to them. They came and harvest before you.

They came in from the roof, because it is a Shop lot unit. The roof already is reinforced with double layered cement boards, zinc plates and added with additional 2"x3" wood crossing. They have to remove the asbestos roof, internal zinc plates, cement board and the wood crossing. Not an easy job but there are determined to do it.

If they can hammer through the wall of a Standalone, to them coming in through the roof is peanut.

It is not so much about losing the nests. It hurts me when I saw all the chicks and eggs on the floor. I don't condone killing. In my countless years of involvement in Swiftlets farming, I had never done "force harvesting". Some people brag about how they force harvest and the birds population and nests increased after that. That is purely a myth and it is stupid to do that. If you believe in karma you would know what will happen to the Swiftlets farm in the near future.

So I am adding another layer of roof over the asbestos roof and will install barb wire around the perimeter of the roof. If they still want to break in they still could. This is to make it harder for them.

This Open roof Swiftlet farm is very potential target in the eyes of the thieves. Go to the roof, use a rope and down you go into the roving area.... that's about it.  If given a choice I always opt for the Dog kennel design. Most of my Swiftlet farms are of Dog Kennel design. They do have better advantages than the Open roof type. (Will discuss that in my next article).

A couple of months ago I went back to my hometown, Taiping. A well-known heritage town in Perak. The  Birds nests here are the most sought after due to its high quality ( clean, white and big size). Taiping has the highest annual rainfall in the country. Now you know why humidity is important.

There are many Swiftlet farms here, some have been here since the early 70's. Some are harvesting beyond the 30kg mark per month. This attracted lots of attention. It is not surprising that most Swiftlet farms here had their roofs reinforced with metal sheets covering over the old roof tiles. Most of them are of the Pre-war shop lots.

响的燕子声音不是关键因素 LOUD SWIFTLET SOUND IS NOT THE KEY FACTOR

我写了很多关于燕子声音及其功能的文章。 （你可以检查我以前的文章来做参考）。很遗憾，许多燕屋主仍然无法理解一个好燕子声音的想法，意义，目标和目的。

自燕窝农业历史开始以来，对燕子声音的响度的感觉一直没有改变。

一次又一次，，人们还不能理解燕子声音的本质，除了......它越大声就能吸引燕子之外。这就是为什么高功率高音扬声器和那些能够产生非常大声的有需求的原因。

如果响度是燕子养殖成功的关键，那么任何想要在燕子养殖中取得成功的人都可能会去轰炸他们的燕子声音，并且一夜之间就会有数千只燕子飞入燕屋农场做燕窝。

不是那么简单。没有技术参与，没有技术要求，没有科学研究数据列表，没有必要的知识....只是去购买一些非常高瓦特的高音喇叭......那些有线圈和金属外壳的。是的，昂贵的。你会笑到银行。

听起来很高兴，听起来很舒服。不幸的是，现实中，那些这样做的人都失败的很彻底。

常识上告诉你，我们要的是质量，而不是数量。我们不是在参加比赛，看看谁能发出最响亮的声音。

LOUD SWIFTLET SOUND IS NOT THE KEY FACTOR

I had written many articles about Swiftlet sounds and its functions. (for references you could check my previous articles). It is sad to see many Swiftlet farmers still unable to grasp the idea, the meaning, the objective and the purpose of a good Swiftlet sound.

The perception of loudness of Swiftlet sounds hasn't changed much ever since it started way back at the beginning of Swiftlet farming history.

Again and again, people still couldn't understand the essence of  Swiftlet sound other than... the louder it is the better it would attract birds. That's why high watt tweeters and those that could produce very loud sound are in demand.

If loudness is the key to success in Swiftlet farming then whoever wants to be successful in Swiftlet farming could just go and blast their Swiftlet sounds and overnight there will be thousand of birds flying into the farm to build nests.

Isn't that simple. No technology involvement, no skill required, no scientific research data to tabulate, no knowledge is needed .... just go and buy some very loud tweeters with very high watt ....those that have coils and metal case on it. Yes, the expensive ones. And you would be laughing to the bank.

Sounds very good to hear and soothing to your ears. Unfortunately, in reality, those who did that often failed miserably.

Common sense would tell you that we are looking at quality, not quantity. We are not in the competition to see who could command the loudest sound.

There are many important factors of the Sound System that would affect the performance of the Swiftlet farm. The 2 major ones that I would like to discuss are Swiftlet sound and the Equipment  ( Amplifier and tweeters).

 I would like to emphasize again, it is not all about the loudness of a sound. It is about what sounds at which frequencies it is transferring. It is all about how well a Swiftlet sound has been written. In other words, it is about how well it has been composed. What and which sounds have been incorporated into that Swiftlets song as the whole. (mating sound, fighting sound, territory defensive sound and hundred of the different type.).

There are many criteria of a good Swiftlet sound and the list could go on. If you could master all these then I would say you could confidently claim that phrase " Laughing to the Bank".

Here is a brief information on sound frequency. The sound is transmitted through waves of frequencies. "No frequency means no sound". When the sound waves hit a level which measured by kHz it will transmit into sound.  If that level falls into the hearing capability of birds then birds would be able to hear it.

1 kHz is within the range of human hearing. If a signal at this frequency is input to a headset or loudspeaker, the resulting tone has a pitch that falls into the so-called "audio mid-range." An EM signal at a frequency of 1 kHz has a wavelength of 300 kilometers or about 190 miles.

Haha...if I go into that technical part most of you will fall asleep. Furthermore, how many would want to learn about all this other than just want to own a good Swiftlet farm and sell the nests

Having said that, have you got the right Amplifiers and tweeters to transmit the good sound we are talking about? I bet most of you don't have.

The Amplifiers and tweeters must be compatible with the Swiftlet sounds that had been recorded. If this is accomplished the Swiftlet farm would attract a large number of birds to stay and build nests in a shorter period. If the Amplifier and Tweeters are not compatible with Swiftlet sounds then the chirping sounds, tunes and tones couldn't be transmitted well thus not all chirping sounds could be heard. 

This is because the said Tweeters and Amplifiers are not tuned for this specific purposes. Often all are tuned for vocal, acoustic, instrumental,etc.. If frequencies tune of the Amplifiers and Tweeters are at the range of the Swiftlets chirping sounds then more chirping sounds could be transmitted through the Tweeters thus more chirping sounds could be heard clearly.

Some may argue that they are fine with the current Amplifier and Tweeters in the market as it could also attract birds. Yes, I agree they do attract Birds too, but at what pace? At a slower pace. Isn't investment is all about time? Says to make Rm1000.00 in 1 day is better or to make Rm1000.00 in 1 year? I guess you already have the answer.

So it is not about how loud the Amplifier and Tweeters could produce sound. It is how well it could transmit the frequencies required to churn out all those important sounds from the Swiftlet sound.

(I am sure most of you have heard that those very old successful Swiftlet farms often lowered the volume of their Swiftlet sounds and some even had them switched off. If loudness is the key factor then why would they have it switched off?)

Once you understand this concept it would help you in choosing the best Sound System for your Swiftlet farm.

多年无人看管的燕屋農場，如何增加燕窝和燕子 INCREASE NESTS AND BIRD POPULATION IN A SWIFTLET FARM THAT HAVE NOT BEEN ATTENDED TO FOR YEARS.

收穫後再做燕窝。它表明內部環境處於最佳狀態。

幾個月前我在砂拉越。我被邀請去參觀几个燕屋農場，很多年前为他们建立的燕屋農場一些長期客戶。多年來，我們所有人都成為了非常好的朋友。我在美里住了幾天，後來前往民都魯。

最有趣的是，我現在寫的这片文章是我幾年前建立的一個特別的燕屋農場。燕屋主對燕窩養殖知之甚少。就我而言，我認為他是新手......從1到10的比例。他可能落在1-2。一個是知識最少的人。他進入养燕行业，就是因為那时一種趨勢。

燕屋農場建成後，他管理了幾個月，此後他從未參觀燕屋農場近3年的时间。他完全放棄了它，说不得空，他還有其他更重要的企業要參與。你能想像得到，一個燕屋農場被鎖定了近3年。

在燕屋農場里有蝙蝠，壁虎，蜥蜴，螞蟻等等。我建議他除掉它們。我引導了他好幾個星期。我告訴他，當我過來時，我希望看到燕屋農場的改變。舊損壞的高音喇叭被更換並更換為新的HI-NEST Tx20和GS-18。新的高音喇叭放置在燕屋農場的新區域，以吸引更多的燕子留下來作燕窝。

為了推動燕窝的增長，他必須付出額外的努力，因為這個燕屋農場被忽視了太久了。我教他如何控制通風管以獲得最佳濕度。一直以来，他無法解決濕度的問題。需要關閉的洞口必須關閉，尤其是那些直接面對太陽的洞口。現在他設法將相對濕度控制在84-94％左右。溫度看起來也不錯。

在遵循了我的所有指示並完成了所有必要的事情之後，大約兩個月後，我拜訪了他的燕屋農場。結果太棒了。他很幸運。燕屋農場完全關閉，沒有維護，並保持原樣，但內部有很多燕窝。我無法透露裡面有多少公斤的燕窝，因為我曾答應主人不這樣做，因為它會吸引盜竊。

我很驚訝地看到木板仍然像以前一樣好。深褐色的Meranti是必要的。他没有后悔選擇了我強烈建議的最好的木板。我無法想像如果他選擇了那些低質量的木板，如果現在燕窝成倍增加，而木板開始變質，那麼他將會頭痛不已。

下面是我在參觀上述燕屋農場期間拍攝的照片。在2個月內，燕窝數量有所增加。更好的燕窝質量，更大的尺寸，更清潔和更白。你可以清楚地看到，成功的燕屋農場的本質在於其設計，技能和知識的重要性，以及使用正確的小工具（聲音，高音單元，激素，放大器等）的良好技術可以改變農場從壞到好。

一些人都在问。。。內部聲音不影響燕窝的發展嗎… 在質量方面，大小等等？答案絕對是肯定的! 正確的聲音與正確的頻率創造一個舒緩, 平靜, 安全的環境, 等等。燕子會感到舒適和安全, 沒有恐懼和匆忙做燕窝。這樣的過程會產生更高品質的巢。(下一篇文章我將詳述)
