高溫度和高濕度在燕屋農場 HIGH TEMPERATURE And HIGH HUMIDITY in SWIFTLET FARM

外面的溫度上升到40度C。前一年在這個期間並不是這樣。幾乎每隔一周都有下雨。在過去的幾個月，下午的氣溫一直極端達到40度C。自從2006年以來是最熱的一個季節。

就算被建的好的燕屋農場，有良好的防熱材料也一樣遭受熱氣溫的問題，何況那些只是用單層磚建造的燕屋農場，很差的通風系統控制，沒有被管理好的排氣風扇，差控制的RH (濕度)等......

那些把噴霧器一天開3次每一次30分鐘的燕屋農場還是不能得到應該的濕度，那就是高過80%(RH)。

許多燕屋農場有使用測濕計來運行噴霧器的會發現噴霧器一直連續的開在他們控制板上。這使燕屋農場充滿炎熱的濕氣。如果一直持續這樣，那燕屋農場的溫度將直線上升。內部的溫度會上升到31度C以上，霧變熱了把溫度推高。一個熱空氣和細水霧在空氣中的相互作用。這與通風孔的控制做的很差有關，因爲更多的空氣通過通風孔流進燕屋農場。

正如我之前在早期的許多文章中提過，溫度和濕度是2個不同的東西雖然它們是相互關聯的。使用濕度(RH)來降低溫度是不明智之舉。燕屋農場的牆壁、設計、尺寸和通風孔的控制會影響噴霧器產生出來的霧的溫度。

兩個常見的誤解如何降低在燕屋農場中的溫度：

1） 增加通風孔的數量（更多的熱空氣被吸入燕屋農場的內部，因爲外面

    的溫度是40度C)

2） 增加噴霧器(RH)

如果以上所述的不適當管理，它將把溫度推高。高的溫度和濕度環境鼓勵真菌和黴菌的生長。現在由於試圖降低燕屋農場的溫度而出現了另外一個問題。（除非木板是深褐色的Meranti。我懷疑，如于90%的燕屋農場都是在使用粉紅色的木板也是被稱為Meranti的)。

作為一個經驗的法則，每140-200s/f就用一個4"的PVC管的通風孔。（除了這個，還有其他因素，例如牆上的材料，燕屋農場的大小、 設計等也會影響溫度）。

一個正確修建的燕屋農場只需要在最炎熱的季節期間開動噴霧器一天3次（每次20分鐘）。減少到每天2次在普通一天，當最炎熱的季節結束之後。

HIGH TEMPERATURE And HIGH HUMIDITY in SWIFTLET FARM

The outside temperature rises to 40C. The year before, during this period it was not like this. It had rained almost every other week. The past few months the temperature has been extreme reaching 40C in the afternoon. It has been the hottest season since 2006.

Even well built Swiftlet  Farms with good insulation materials suffer heat problems what more for those Swiftlet Farms that are built with single layered brick, poor control of ventilation system, poorly manage of exhaust fan, poor control of RH (humidity) etc..

Swiftlet farms that run Humidifiers 3 times a day for 30 minutes each session still couldn’t get the preferred humidity above 80% (RH).

Many Swiftlet farms which run Humidifiers on Hygrostat would encounter a continuously on mode on their control panels. This makes the Swiftlet farms wet with hot mist. If  persisted the temperature of the Swiftlet farm would shoot up. Internal temperature would rise above 31C  the mist becomes hot and pushes up the temperature. An  interaction of hot air and fine water droplets in the air. This has very much to do with  poor control of ventilation holes as more air is drawn into the farm through ventilation holes.

As I have mentioned in many of my earlier articles, Humidity and Temperature are 2 different things though they are interrelated. Using humidity (RH) to reduce temperature is not a wise move. The walls, the design, the sizes and the control of ventilation holes of the Swiftlet farm influence the temperature of the mist produced by the Humidifiers.

Two common misperception on  reducing temperature in Swiftlet farm:

1) Increase the number of ventilation holes ( more hot air is drawn into the Internal as outside               temperature is 40C) 

2) Increase  humidity (RH)

If  the above is not properly managed, it would push up the temperature. High humidity and temperature environment encourages the growth of fungus and mold. Now another problem arises as a result of trying to bring down the temperature of the farm. ( Unless the Nesting Plank is of Dark brown Meranti. I doubted it, as 90% Swiftlet farm is using the Pink type Nesting Plank which is also called Meranti).

As a rule of thumb, one ventilation hole  of 4”  PVC pipe for every 140-200 s/f . (Besides this other factors such as material of the wall, sizes of farm, design, etc. also influence the temperature).

A properly built Swiftlet farm only needs to run its Humidifiers 3 times a day ( 20 minutes) during the hot season. Reduce to 2 times a day on a normal day when the hot extreme season is over.

Swiftlet Sound Frequency

I have always emphasized on the importance of sound frequency below 20Hz for Internal sound when doing Swiftlet sound recording. I believe the frequency of  Swiftlet chicks (baby birds) are much lower compared to the External sound which plays more of  Adult birds sound. After many years of experiment and experience of witnessing young Swiftlets hanging on the Internal tweeters for hours after an Internal sound was played. I knew both  Internal and the External Sound frequencies are entirely different. They both attract different Swiftlets (Different listeners). Both have their own set of frequencies. With such knowledge,   I remixed and recorded them according to their respective frequency. I have been doing this since 2007.

Yesterday while searching for information on sound frequency, I stumbled on an article which strengthen my belief. All this while I was right about the sound of Swiftlet chicks which produce lower sound frequency compared to Adult Swiftlets. Though the article was about human hearing capability, but  I believe it shares some similarities.

“Audio equipment must be able to reproduce frequencies high enough and low enough to be realistic. The human hearing range, for healthy young persons, is 20 Hz to 20,000 Hz. [11] Most adults can't hear higher than 15 kHz.[9] CDs are capable of reproducing frequencies as low as 10 Hz and as high as 22.05 kHz, making their frequency range adequate for reproducing all the frequencies that people can hear.[9]

The equipment must also provide no noticeable distortion of the signal or emphasis or de-emphasis of any frequency in this frequency range”.

Notably it shows that we need a different set of frequencies for different Internal and external sound. Tuning the Amplifier “Bass, Middle and Treble” can effectively alter the sound. The Bass and Middle control knobs are vital for the effectiveness of Internal sound while External sound relies on the Treble knob. The same applies  to  Amplifiers that have multiple control knobs “equalizer”.

There are many types of Amplifier on the market, but not all are specially made for Swiftlet farming. Most Amplifiers in the Market are factory tuned to a frequency towards 20,000Hz. This makes the sound more crisp and sharp which is good for Instrumental and Vocal quality. But Swiftlet chirping sounds response is different. It may be good for our hearing, but the sounds came out from these Amplifiers may not attract many birds.

To Maximize on this, 2 most important things we need to have are:

1) The original recording of the Swiftlet sound has to be recorded to the frequency based on its application. ( Internal or External use).

2) The Amplifier  that plays these sounds (Internal or External) have to be properly tuned according to its frequency. Bear in mind the frequency of both Internal and External are set differently.

Hope the above information would help you to tune your Amplifiers correctly.

如何吸引年輕的燕子定留？ How To Attract Young Swiftlets To Stay?

用了Love Potion之後。令人難以置信......

使用Love Potion之前。這個燕屋農場在苦苦掙扎。在使用Love Potion之前，甚至不能使燕子數量增加10%。

一個有趣的觀察通過閉路電視監控、 在使用Love Potion之前和之後。它被越南的Tran先生從閉路電視錄下來的。

很明顯的燕子和燕窩的數量增加在使用了Love Potion之後。再次，它顯示大量的燕子沿著被噴灑了Love Potion的木板。此外，也被觀察到燕子的糞便有增加了，這也是一個好的預兆。它從其他的燕屋農場吸引了一大批年輕的燕子。現在這個燕屋農場用Love Potion偷了其鄰居年輕的燕子。

它估計超過40-60%的年輕燕子再也沒有回到自己出生的地方做燕窩，除非它們第一次的燕窩是被造在那燕屋農場，否則，它們有遷移的趨勢。因此，年輕燕子第一個的燕窩是一個燕屋農場的生存關鍵因素。如果一個燕屋農場可以減少它的百分比或防止其年輕燕子從遷移到其他燕屋農場，那麽其燕子的數量和燕窩可以輕鬆地增加兩至八倍，在一年之內。這可以清楚地從上面的照片看到。

一個簡單的計算，例如： 如果燕屋農場有100個燕窩，每個燕窩裏都有2顆燕子蛋，只是採取兩個季節，它可以產生400只小燕子。在孵化期間10%沒有生存、 10%死在燕窩或被捕食動物攻擊，和另一個10%沒有飛出燕屋農場。這就是30%，加上40%沒有回來（遷移）的，一共失去了70%的燕子。兩個季節，基於上述的計算，這個燕屋農場失去了280只年輕的燕子，只有設法保留120只年輕的燕子。

如果...所有120只年輕的燕子配對和作燕窩，那麽這將會有60個燕窩在1年的期間。在開始的第一年有100個燕窩，和在年尾有160個燕窩，大多數的燕屋主會很高興的慶祝。但是他們不知道他們其實可以做得比這好很多倍。

我想大家都聼過很多關于成功燕屋農場因爲燕子的數量過分的多而使木板沒有空位給燕子做燕窩。許多新的燕窩被作在離地面低至3尺的地方，幾乎所有的地方在燕屋農場的牆上。別無選擇，很多採用強迫性收穫如扔掉燕子蛋和小燕子。為什麼會這樣呢？答案是"保留年輕燕子的能力"。

因此，保留年輕的燕子是至關重要的，和它們就是您燕屋農場的未來。嗯.....我們該怎麼做呢？它的病死率(30%)可以減少，通過良好的燕屋農場管理和保留年輕的燕子，就是使用Love Potion。Love Potion防止年輕的燕子遷移，在同一時間吸引年輕的燕子居留和做燕窩。很多成功的燕屋農場通過使用Love Potion成功了。

讓我們說病死率可降至20%通過良好改進的燕屋農場管理（排氣孔控制、濕度和溫度控制、 以防害蟲等等），而不是向你鄰居的燕屋農場失去40% - 2個季節的燕子，通過使用Love Potion降低到20%失去年輕的燕子。同樣是在年頭有100個燕窩的燕屋農場，一共失去的是40%每2個季節，而不是以前的70%每2個季節。（這就是減少了30%的失去)

數據就是，400只年輕的燕子減掉40%是的240只保留的幼燕子。如果所有的燕子都配對和做燕窩，這將在年底是120個燕窩。

現在你可以清楚地看到如何做到這一點。即使你可以增加一小百分比的年輕燕子定留，和做燕窩您將看到很明顯的燕窩和燕子的數量增加。

要記得，年輕的燕子才是你燕屋農場的未來。如果有幾千只燕子在你燕屋農場，六角形高音揚聲器或入口洞玩，但是如果它們不定留和做燕窩也是沒有用的。

主要的目標是吸引年輕的燕子定留和做燕窩。

How To Attract Young Swiftlets To Stay?

 After Using Love Potion. Unbelievable.....

Before Using Love Potion. This Swiftlet farm was struggling. Can't even increase Bird population by 10% before using a Love potion.

An interesting observation through CCTV, before and after using Love Potion. It was recorded from a CCTV in a Swiftlet Farm belongs to Mr. Tran of Vietnam.

Clear indication of an increase of Bird's population and Nests after using Love Potion. Again it shows a large number of Swiftlets clinging to the planks the area sprayed with Love Potion. Also observed is the increase of Bird's droppings, which is a good sign. It has attracted a large number of Young Swiftlets from other Swiftlet farms.Now this Swiftlet farm is stealing  its neighbors Young Swiftlets with Love Potion.

It is estimated more than 40-60% of Young Swiftlets never returned to their birth's place to build nests, unless they had built their first nests in that Swiftlet farm before otherwise they have the tendency to migrate. Therefore, the first nest by Young Swiftlets is crucial to the survival of a Swiftlet farm. If a Swiftlet farm could reduce the percentage or prevent its Young Swiftlets from migrating to other Swiftlet farms, then its birds population and nests could easily increase by two to eight fold within a year. This can be clearly seen from the above pictures.

A simple calculation for example: if a Swiftlet farm has 100 nests each has 2 eggs, just take 2 seasons it could produce 400 young Birds. 10% did not survive during incubation, 10% die in the nests or attacked by predators and another 10% did not make it out of the farm. That is 30%, plus 40% never returned (migrated), the total Swiftlet lost is 70%. For 2,  seasons, based on the above calculation this Swiftlet farm lost 280 Young Swiftlets and only managed to retain 120 Young Swiftlets.

If... all 120 Young Swiftlets  paired and build nests that would be 60 nests for this Swiftlet farm for a period of 1 year. With 100 nests at the beginning of the year, and 160 nests at the end of the year most Swiftlet farmers are happy enough to celebrate. But they did not know they could have done many times better.

I am sure many of you have heard about successful Swiftlet farms over populated with no spaces on the planks for nesting. Many new nests built on the walls as low as 3 feet from the ground practically in all areas of the farm. With no option,  many resorted to force harvesting throwing away eggs and chicks. Why is this happening? The answer is "The ability to retain Young Swiftlets".

So retaining Young Swiftlets are vital, and they are the future of your Swiftlet farms. Well... How do we do this?  The fatality rate (30%) could be reduced through good farm management and retaining Young Swiftlet by using Love Potion. Love Potion prevents Young Swiftlets from migrating at the same time attracting Young Swiftlets to stay and build nests. Many successful Swiftlet farms had succeeded by using Love potion.

Let's say the fatality rate could be reduced to 20% through improvement of good farm management (vent hole control, humidity and Temperature control, Pest control, etc.),  and instead of losing Young Swiftlets to your neighbors' farms at 40% per 2 seasons, reducing it to 20% by using Love Potion. Based on the same number of nests at the beginning of the year which is 100 nests, the total lost will be 40% per 2 seasons instead of the previous 70% lost per 2 seasons. (That is a reduction of 30%  lost)

The figure would be, 400 Young Swiftlets minus 40% is 240 young birds retained. If all paired and built nests, that would be 120 nests at the end of the year.

Now you could see clearly how this is done. Even if you could increase a small percentage of Young Swiftlets to stay and build nests  you would see a significant increase in the number of nests and birds.

Remember Young Swiftlets are the future of your Swiftlet farms. No point of having few thousand Birds playing at your Swiftlet farm, at the Hexagonal tweeters or the Entrance hole if they don't stay and build nests.

The main objective is to attract Young Swiftlet to stay and to Build Nests.

這張照片是從一個非常成功的燕屋農場拍的位於北部。這個部分的燕屋農場是尚未被打開的。裝修還未完成。在牆壁的另一邊是非常成功的燕屋農場，有數以千計的燕窩。燕子的數量不斷的增加，根據消息來源，所有的牆壁從地面低於3尺的地方都被燕子做窩了。燕屋主必須增加更多的空間來容納這種瘋狂的增長。我們現在說的大概是50公斤的燕窩或者更多。

唯一的解決辦法，來面對這種瘋狂的增長是使用金字塔木板系統。

現在，你可以看到，贏家通吃......，剩下失敗的燕屋農場只有幾個燕窩。

Pyramid Planking System for Swiftlet Farm

Why this Swiftlet farm is adopting the Pyramid Planking System. Isn't the single planking system is good enough?


These pictures were taken from a very successful Swiftlet farm located in the North. This section of the farm is still under construction. The other side of the wall is a very successful farm with  thousands of  nests inside. The Swiftlet's population keeps increasing and according to sources, Nests were built all over the walls as low as 3 feet from the ground. The owner has to increase the space to accommodate this crazy population growth. We are talking about 50kg of nests or more.

The only solution to accommodate this crazy growth is to adopt the Pyramid planking system.

Now you could see, winner takes all...leaving the failed farms with few nests.

Swiftlet Farm in Progress 燕屋農場正在進展

Here are some of the pictures taken from the top floor of a Swiftlet farm I am building. Anticipated to be completed in a few weeks time.

 Walls are insulated with Styrofoams to prevent heat from penetrating.

牆壁是用保麗龍來防止熱氣穿透。

 The concrete beam is also insulated. Heat can penetrate 6-8" wide concrete in 4 hours of direct sunlight.
那個棟梁也被防熱。在4個小時太陽直接的照射下，熱氣可以穿過6-8"的水泥。

 I am using Sand bricks on this side because the Sun sets on the opposite side. (Clay bricks are preferred on areas that expose to direct sun ...evening sun).

我是使用砂磚在這一邊，因爲太陽下山再另外一邊。(粘土磚是首選尤其是在被太陽直接暴曬的牆壁....下午的太陽)。

Swiftlet farming is all about thinking and planning for the future. What we do and build today is for tomorrow.  Swiftlets don't build nests overnight, it takes time. Swiftlet farming is a long term plan 3-5 years. If the farm is build properly in a good location and with luck on your side then the waiting time would be shorter.

燕屋農場是關於思考和規劃未來。我們今天所建立的是爲了明天。燕子不是在一夜之間做燕窩的，它需要時間。養燕是一項長期的計畫3-5年。如果燕屋農場是正確的建造在良好的位置，那麽運氣就在你的旁邊，等待的時間將變得更短。
