This Bh belongs to Mr.W of Trengagnu. It has started sound not long ago. Many birds came and play but it seems none of them wanted to stay.
According to Mr. W, the consultant who had built this Bh couldn't be found anymore. This what he had left behind for Mr.Wong. Now Mr. Wong has to so solve the puzzle that the consultant himself couldn't put together.
Mr.W had called me many times. He wants to know why birds are not staying in his Bh which located in a Prime Birds Area. As far as he is concerned he had tried his best to solve whatever problem he knows, but still unable to make the birds stay.
By observing from outside it can be clearly seen that the entrance hole is not properly done. I don't favor the size. There shouldn't be dangling wires around it which could obstruct bird's fly path.
(no tweeters on the doors. It is a must to have tweeters at door to attract birds to fly deeper into the Bh.)
It looks very much like the failed farm which I had visited in S.Renggam, all walls are painted with black paint. They shared the same problems. I was wondering, it maybe the same consultant as the internal design shared many similarities.
The partitioning was wrong. It doesn't create a cozy and safe environment for the birds. For new farm, birds like to find dark and cozy area to build their first nest. The new Bh should have an area specially made for this. I called it "The First Nest Area (FNA)" . Even as a human I can't find a cozy place in this Bh what more for a bird.
Wires are everywhere on the floor.Though many would argue that it doesn't matter as it is built for Birds not human. But if the builder himself carries such attitude do you think he could build a good and successful farm. This is "tidak apa" attitude. With such attitude whatever he does it would be "tidak apa" from wiring to sound system as well as design. Look at this Bh it tells all!
Secondly the Nesting planks are of low grade. If the humidity is at average level of 80% (best like by birds) in less than 8 months all planks will be infested by fungus and mould.
9 out of 10 contractors or consultants won't use good wood for planks as this would reduce their profit. I have visited so many Bhs to be frank 90% are using poor low grade wood which would be soon infested by fungus it is a matter of time.
Tweeters are not fixed on the corner boards all are on the straight planks. The tweeters formation is wrong. Young birds build nests on corner boards not on straight planks. By observing his works I noticed he has very little knowledge about sound system, planking formation, etc ( but he gets lots of jobs). Can't blame him because his swiftlet farming knowledge is also "tidak apa".
Is it necessary to paint black at the lower floor? Isn't it dark enough? The builder should have known this. That is why we put light at the lower floor. Many still don't get it. Use black paint whenever necessary not always!
It is Sad to see this Bh in such condition. It needs total revamp if it wants to attract birds to make nests.
The structural of this building is good , incidentally it has lots of beams that help in partitioning which could reduce the cost of renovation. Unfortunately the consultant didn't take advantage of it, perhaps he may not know it himself.
Mr. W has to do something drastic in order to salvage this Bh. It is better to revamp it now rather than few years later. If he revamp it now few years later he may be harvesting instead of looking for solution to problem.
Good Swiftlet farming All!
