One Swiftlet farm 3kg....what if you have more than 1....
These were the nests collected last week from one of my
Swiftlet farms located in Selangor. I am satisfied with the farm's
performance...a mere 3 years 3kg per month. What else could I ask for.
Packed in a box waiting to be collected by a buyer. Your
Swiftlet farms could also perform the same. All Swiftlet farms could do well if
designed , built and managed properly.
Obviously location is important, but it also has to be well
managed. I have come across Swiftlet farms located in a good area but failed to
attract birds.
Currently nests buyers are paying Rm 1200- 1800 (raw) depends
on the nests quality. Bigger size and cleaner nests fetch higher prices while
smaller, dirtier and out of shapes nests fetch a lower price.
Why some Swiftlet farms are producing bigger and better
quality nests and while others are producing smaller and dirtier nests? If you
ask those who are inexperienced they will tell you .."oh..it is the location.. nothing much we can do about it".
I strongly disagree with this statement. Many years ago I
did think the same but now no more as I have done lots of experiments and saw
it myself the result showed the size and
the quality of the nests could be influenced by what we do in our Swiftlet
farms.
Whereas the external factors in beyond our control but the
internal factors (Micro) are within and under our control. How we want the
level of Rh to be...the temperature and what type of Aroma to be used are all
up to us. What type of Tweeter and Amplifier, what type of external and
internal sound to be used...how loud the sound should be set...and hundred and
one thing.... all are within our control.
All these influences the quality of the nests. Why I am
saying this ?
As you all know I have been building Swiftlet farms, revamp
and salvaging them since 2008. Through my observation and the data I have
collected, I was surprised to see ….changes of the Micro affects the quality of
the nests.
I still remember there were many cases where failed farms
with less than 30 nests..most of the nests were small, dirty with feathers, out
of shapes, cracks with holes, etc.. The owner had almost given up. They
complained to me.." James.. this area is like this one.. all nests are
small because here got too many Swiftlet farms already".
Six months later after I had revamped their farms the new
nests inside show improvement in quality. The nests are bigger, cleaner and
whiter. I had reduced the Swiftlet farms temperature, stabilized the RH, used
the correct Aroma, changed the External and Internal sound (smoothing internal
sound), Reduce the light density, etc..
This has not only happened to one or two selected Swiftlet
farms...it happened to so many Swiftlet farms that I had revamped. From such
observations, I can confidently say the
quality of the nests can be influenced by us.
