Intenal Sound Use common Sense.You don't have to be an expert

(craving for the internal sound all nests being built around the sound)

I came back quite late yesterday after meeting with a reader who wanted to engage me as an adviser for his new project. It was a 3 storey 30x 90 standalone located in Tanjung Malim.

We discussed about the plan, the time and everything that needed to make sure it would have nests in it in the shortest period of time.

While on my way back home a regular reader Mr. C from Sarawak called me. He is avid swiftlet farmer who has been following my blog since it started more than 2 years ago.

“James sorry to call you now. Hope not disturbing you”

“Oh Mr.C , how are you? Wait let me put on my hand free. I am driving now.”

“No problem James”

“Yes Mr.C what can I do for you my friend? Sing Lee ho Boh?

“Very good liow Very Ho, Your Gezillion Star and Hypnotic internal sound are marvelous. Dam good man combines with your Super Love Potion. It really surprised me. When I started playing the sound I don’t see many birds but after 2 months I went inside my farm, many white shits and from 460 nests last count 2 months ago and today it increases to 590 nests. What did you put in the sound and Love Potion? Tell me the secret lah?”

“Ha..ha..ha.ha..ha..Mr.C can no problem I can tell you the secret but you may not understand it..ha..ha..ha..the New Gezillion star in a smooth slow mover. Inside, it has some female craving sounds of ready to mate with different pitch. If use with the Hypnotic internal sound with baby craving for parent then nest grow is not a problem”

“Wah James you talk like birds already. Please talk human language lah. I am blur already.”

I laughed and laughed

Mr. C explained to me how his farm had progressed and how he had followed my instructions. He was a nice chap and a good friend. Started off as my blog reader and now a successful swiftlet farmer.

Most if not all even those internal sound that claimed to be good internal sound, if you listen carefully you could only hear 1 sound which is the baby sound nothing more that .Perhaps within sequences there would be 1 or 2 adults sound chirping loudly. Some of these sounds claimed to be the best in the market. You would be surprise 9 out of 10 failed farms I visited are using such sound. I don’t want expose the name. I think most of you know it and most of you migh be using it.

Common sense would tell you that in a successful farm which has few hundred nests no way there would be only 1 sound (baby sound). The sound environment is of mixture of adult, juvenile, female, male, baby sound.

So if you are using an internal sound that contains only 1 sound in it then it would be so unrealistic. When Swiftlets fly into your farm they feel uncomfortable because your farm is dam fake with such internal sound.

That is why so many people complaining that birds come and play and don’t stay. Everything has its reason.

怎麼办如果您的燕屋農場位于那些100%被轉換成燕屋農場的區域。 甚而一些加了另外一層樓在上面，变成了3層樓。

Making a Good Wall

Nowadays creative Swiftlet farmers are going all the way out to make sure their farms micro is at the best condition.

They won’t want to gamble away their investments. They would do the best and use the best material available. Money is secondary. They are looking at long term. While many smart ones are opting for the best way to build farm but there are still many out there couldn’t bother about farm’s micro.

As long their building are fitted with planks (whatever planks) and tweeters they are satisfy. After a long wait perhaps few years then only they realize how much time and money they have wasted. Often it is too late and it cost money.

Look at the picture above. This is how they build wall now the whole idea is to prevent heat and create better micro. A combination of bricks with Styrofoam. What a brilliant idea but its labor intensive.

Well there are hundreds of ways to create good micro but the picture above should be given credit.

There are using good quality clay bricks the whole Idea is to build a good farm.

What if your farm is located in such area with 100% all shops converted in to Swiftlet farms. Some even built an additional floor on top to make it 3 storey.

If you have a farm here what would you do? Leave it as it is and wait or do something.

I was invited by Mr.L from Taiping to have a look at his farm of 3 years. It has been doing quite ok, there are few hundred nests in His farm but Mr.L wants more improvement.

The Location not bad but too many farms around. Those that stand out amongst all would attract all birds. It is a winner takes all situation and there will be no such thing as 2^nd or 3^rd place as far as Swiftlet farming concerned. Either you make it or don’t.

You wouldn’t be surprised that farms next to yours are having few thousand nests and yours only have 10 pieces.

So how should you go about it? Let’s look at the main criteria to be competitive in such area.

The Farm’s design has to be perfect to accommodate the way birds fly.

1) The partitioning and rooms in farm have to be located at appropriate place. (Exit and entry have to be accordant to birds flying path. ( most pictures on the web that I saw didn’t take into consideration of this)They want to create a good room but failed to understand its purposes.

2) Good positioning of entrance hole and inter hole. The size should be appropriate to the ratio of the size of the farm. (not based on what we wanted but what’s birds wanted) It also has to be located at a good position.

3) The types and number of tweeters especially internal ones.( can’t be simply installed which I see on the web most are wrongly installed)

4) The number of tweeters should be at optimum level not over load to few hundreds. This would create confusion to the birds. I called it “frequency crash” (means, there are so many tweeters we can’t hear anything except loud chirping sound. This confused the birds.)

5) Frequent use of Good aroma in farm ( Love Potion)

6) Temperature and humidity have to be constant monitored

7) Understand the light density in farm. Never too dark nor too bright

8) Make sure there is no movement of air in farm.

9) No exhaust fan please

10) No potable fans in farm please.

11) Formation of nesting planks (a good formation would attract birds to make nest fast).

12) Good type of nesting planks that resist fungus ( you don’t need to change them Later)

13) All walls should have good insulation from heat.

14) Good external and internal sound. (Don’t get those that already being used by many people. Your sound should be unique and stand out so birds would stay in your farm)

15) All pools should have water proofing compound. Many farms have leakage problem.

16) Time the humidifier according to the season. ( 15min per session is good enough)

17) Good Pest control

18) Understand the use of PVC Vent pipe and the number needed in farm

19) Understand the use of every each type of material to build farm eg: sand brick, clay brick, grc, etc. So that you know what is good for what purposes.( their advantages and disadvantages)

20) The ratio of cement, sand, etc to create cooler walls.

21) Never use or follow a same design that has been used by many when designing a farm. Every farm has it uniqueness. (never buy farm design over counter they might be hundreds of people using the same design your farm would lose it uniqueness)

22) Portioning of the external sound tweeters. Where it should be fixed( not all must be fixed at the entrance hole as claimed by many)

23) Type of external Tweeters. Some external tweeters attract more farmers than birds. When installed it doesn’t attract many bird .This is due to its frequency that is out of the range of birds hearing capability which I Had mentioned before. These types of tweeters have very loud sound to attract the buyer but not birds.

24) Where to put and install the humidifier

25) What type of humidifier is appropriate

26) What type of Amp to be use? Acoustic, instrumental, vocal? All have different frequency responses.

There are so many more things you have to do and observe in order to be the best in such area. The list can goes up to more than 500 perhaps more .I guarantee, you can’t learn all this from books and seminars. No matter how comprehensive the seminar or book are. I would bet Rm 10.00 with Rm 10,000.00 with anyone who dares to take the challenge that a Seminar and Book could cover all these.

Let’s get back to Mr.L case. He concerns that some of his neighbors are using Sterss sound to attract birds. Those were the ones that are in desperate position to get birds into their farms. This indirectly affected his farm too.

I told Mr. L, go and talk to your neighbors and educate them Stress sound it for testing and it is not for external use.

While we were there fortunately came a farm’s owner he happened to know. His farm was located few shops away. He also complained about the farms that use Stress sound. We spoke for awhile and he told us he knows this guy who are using the Strees sound. He promised to speak to him.

I try to teach Mr.L as much as possible to increase the nests in his farm but I don’t know how much he could observe and learn.

He appreciates what I had done and asks me to give him a private tuition on Siwftlet farming the later week. I laughed ha ha…, and I said I love to do so but I don’t have the time Mr.L. because I have many on going projects of building new farms for my readers.

After that we went for dinner and later I headed for Kuala Kangsar.

128 nests is enough. I don't want more!

“James in just 4 and half months after using Love Potion the nests in my farm has increased from 60 pieces to 128 pieces should I still need to continue using Love Potion ?”

Well most users of Love Potion often throw this question at me. My reply would be very simple. To make them understand it would be good to use a simile.

“If you have a continuous income coming in every month and every each month the amount is getting bigger and bigger would you want it to stop?” (Unless you hate money then it would be a totally different case)

If Love Potion could keep on helping your farm to increase nests then why should you want to stop using it? Aren’t the more nests the better? Don’t you want your farm to have few thousands nests in a short period of time and could harvest tens of kgs every each month and you could go for early retirement. That is the reason that most of us went into Swiftlet farming.

There are many Swiftlets farm’s owners out there wanting their farms to have a good increase of nests yet they found no ways. Some had spent tens of thousands in returns only manage to find 1 or 2 nests in their farm after few years of operation. Many of them never had a chance to know what Love Potion is and may not heard of it.

So if you have a good increase in nests after using Love Potion then you should take this opportunity to push the nests grow to a higher level instead of stopping at 128pcs.

So I hope those who experienced drastic grow in number of nests are sharp enough to understand what I had explained.

The value of each nest in a farm is worth Rm 800-1000 each when you sell the whole farm. That excluding the value of the building itself. If there is 800 nests in the particular farm the total nest value would be Rm 800x 800pcs = Rm640, 000.00.

Let’s say the building market value is worth Rm 380k then the whole farm with the nests in it is worth Rm 1020,000.00

How much is the price of 1 bottle of Love Potion compare to the value of nests? Furthermore you only use 1 bottle per month. Think about it. Like I had always said if not all but most Swiftlet farmers are Pound Foolish and Penny wise. Most have this genetic in them that are inherited that are hard to change.

A Good Concrete Ceiling for Swiftlets Farm

(Look at the support

The problem of overheating in farm is mostly caused by the poor construction of roof and ceiling. Either the one who built the roof didn’t understand the effect of heat penetration or simply wanting to safe cost.

There are few ways to prevent heat from penetrating thru the roof and ceiling. One of them is by using concrete. Then again if it is not done properly instead of preventing heat it would create more heat. The concrete ceiling has to be thick enough to prevent heat penetration. In hot area during hot season 3-6” of thickness would not do well unless insulation material being put inside the concrete like sandwiches.

Given the condition that the roof is of zinc material this would make it worst. There are many farms who had applied such technique and later to discover the temperature did fall drastically after they had constructed a concrete ceiling. During hot season inside the ceiling it is like a pressure cooker sometimes the temperature goes up to 60C.

Some said having a concrete ceiling would prevent thieves from breaking in. Burglars wouldn’t be so silly to go thru the ceiling. The Entrance Hole is ideal for them. Unless a grill is being installed at the entrance but I won’t encourage this because it would disturb the flight of the birds.

Some may make a pool above the ceiling so that it could cool down the farm. Make sure it is done properly with water proofing material otherwise water sipping thru the concrete gaps and all the planks inside would be infested with fungus. I have seen this too often all planks are infested.

The pool has to be deep enough and it needs big volume of water if not, it would become hot during hot day. The heat from the hot water from the pool would penetrate thru the concrete ceiling. There were many occasions I tested water in the pools of those failed farms and it reads 45C or more.

So there are bad and good about using concrete ceiling. If you know how to make use of them then it would be to your advantage.

Besides putting concrete on ceiling there are many other ways to prevent heat penetration from ceiling. Styrofoam would be good it cost very much less than the concrete ceiling and you would be surprise if it’s being installed properly it could beat the concrete ceiling in term heat insulation. Beside that it is very much stable and better temperature control during rainy season when wind is strong and chilling.

Other likes wool, bubble foil, aluminum foil etc could be used too but I still prefer Styrofoam.

So the importance of knowing what is to your advantages would definitely help you to build a good farm with good internal environment.
