I always do not believe installing cctv in farm. The reason for most farmers to install cctv is because of thief and to observe swftlets in their farms from their homes..

For thief reason it would not help much if you live far away from your farm by the time you reach your farm the burglars could have left. Secondly if you installed the cctv inside the farm especially the infra type you wouldn’t see clearly as the speed of the flying swiftlets is too fast for the infra camera to capture. Most of the time you would only see fast moving shadows. To observe their flying patterns it is totally out of the question.

Thru my experiences of having visited many farms I do reckon some problems caused by this infra type cctv which I would like to share with all readers.

I had encountered farm's owners complaining about birds don't fly into their farms as many as before. Some even complained totally no birds. For newly set up farms their complains were, after the sound was switched on swiftlets dare not go in and so on.........

( The Red eye effects of an Owl. Some may argue that only flash light from Camera would create this effects. But I wouldn't want take the risk after invested few hundred thousand. Do you?)

.After observing and with head cracking investigation I discovered that the cctv causes more harm than good. Well we can't escape the law of nature, what is good for one thing definitely is bad for other. Anything in this world that has its advantages is also associated with disadvantages.

The infra type camera eye which have many small red light bulbs when its being switched on is the problem. In dark the red coloured bulbs imitates the eye of the predators. If the camera eye is being fixed at the roving it would be like a predator ambushing at the roving waiting for the birds to come in. This red light bulbs resembles the eye of predators.

.By instinct when swiftlets fly into the entrance hole will instantly fly out to prevent from being attacked. The red light bulbs resemble the eyes of Owl, Eagle,etc. This definitely affects the growth of the Bird house.

.For long I do not buy the idea of having cctv in farm. This is the main reason for it. For thief one could always install an alarm system. For your information all my farms have got no cctv but with alarm system.. It has got nothing to do with cost saving. Does it serves any purposes or does it do harm or good? In this cctv cases it causes more harms than good.

Well of course some may argue about this. Some may even say that there are many successful farms that have cctv installed..

Your farm belongs to you not them. So who will be sorry when your farm failed? You or them? So do you want to take the risk?
