Reason being building nest at corners saves saliva and time. It is their favorite place. To me it is not the corner or the above reasons but the lines at the corners where the two planks joint to make the 90dg corners created lines that are easy for young Swiftlets to claw.

So this is where the Corner board comes in. If you install a Corner Board it will create 2 lines instead of 1 line like those without corner boards. The more lines create by the corner board will make it easier for young birds to claw thus making nest faster.
