One of the factors that could help to increase nests in Bh is Humidity. A good Bh should have good control of Rh at all time at 70-90%. Especially for Old Bhs if the gap or its fluctuation could be narrowed down one could see tremendous nests increase.
How do you know the Bh’s Rh is stable or otherwise? Use a Hygrometer to check. Make sure you use a high quality and reliable Hygrometer. I have seen and experienced many poor quality Hygrometers that give wrong and inaccurate reading. There were many incidents where I visit sick Bhs and discovered the Rh is way below accepted level and yet the Hygrometers on the wall showed 80%.
Good Rh in Bhs should record about 70-90% constantly immaterial the weather change. If the Rh recorded outside this gap then you should do something about it.
Rh not only helps to increase nests it also helps in nests quality. With good Rh in BH nests would be larger, cleaner, whiter, etc.
If you want to increase the Nests in your Bhs you have to maintain the humidity (Rh) at a good level. So what should you do? Nowadays with many electronic gadgets around it is easy to solve the Rh’s problem.
Humidifiers, Mist makers, sprinkles, spray nozzle, etc. To me all of these serve one purpose that is to increase Rh. It all depended on which you want to use that are suitable to your Bhs.
Some claimed that the Bh should be as wet as possible even the floor has to be wet. To me it is not the floor or the ceiling or even the wall have to be wet it is all about the level of Rh. If the Rh stable and constantly stays at 70-90% even if the floor is not wet then it has already helped the nests quality and encouraged nests grow.
If the Bh is too wet it would affect the planks if the planks are of poor quality type, it would create smell, the nests would became soft and turn yellowish, etc. Be careful not to exceed the acceptable level of Rh in Bhs. If it is too wet it wouldn’t help instead become disadvantage.
