Did you know that Lizards in Swiftlet Farm eat babies’ swiftlets? I am not talking about the Gecko or the Tokek which could gulp up a whole adult swiftlet. I am talking about the house Lizards that we commonly seen in Swiftlet farms.
These smaller size lizards which could grow up to 6” or more are the culprit that steal small babies chick from nests. Babies’ chicks that just hatched from eggs are very small. It is as small as the egg itself measuring about 5-9mm, Similar to the size of the nail of our pinky.
All it takes for the Lizard is just one gulp, as lizards don’t chew their food. Don’t think that house lizard is not a pest in Swiftlet farm. If the number of Lizard is huge it would affect the birds’ population.
One of the ways to kill or get rid of the lizard in Swiftlet farms is to poison them. Unfortunately Lizards don’t come to the ground and they’re often on the ceiling, walls and hiding behind the planks.
So how to get rid of them? We can’t put the Lizard poison on the floor as the floors of Swiftlet farm are wet and this makes the poison ineffective.
I discovered a way to get rid of them effectively. You don’t have to call in the Pest control guys which would cost you hundreds of ringgit.
I have seen many so called Lizard Poison products in the market but none of them work effectively other than this China made Ants &cockroaches poison. Never underestimate this China made poison they are not just for killing Ants & cockroaches but kills Lizards effectively too.
Lizards love them because it contains biscuit flakes which are sweet. How do you get it to the Lizards that spend most of their time on the ceiling & Planks?
Well, the solution is to get the poison to them instead. You could DIY a small box. A discarded cigarettes box is good. Use the Top part, the opener. It fit perfectly, with its 45dg side the Lizard could easily climb on to it to feed on the poison. Pour half pack of the China made poison onto each discarded cigarettes top box. You would see no Ants, cockroaches and house lizards after 1 week.
I have this on most of the walls of my Swiflets farm. Ever since I put up the poison I have not seen a single pair of house lizard in my Swiftlet farm. My recommendation is for every 20 ft distance there should be a poison box. Place with double sided tap or glue 1-3 ft below planks.
Well this is extremely effective for house lizards, cockroaches and ants but for Gecko and Tokek they might not be easy to kill perhaps they don’t like the biscuits flakes.
You still find Tokek in Swiftlet farm, they are big and can be easily seen. The best is to track them down and catch them. Furthermore they have value at least.
Good Swiflet Farming. The Best is to Share.
