When you ask them is this the correct way to put Styrofoam fake nests that could maximize nests grow? Is this what the birds wanted? They can't answer you for sure.

Swiftlet that build nests on the fake nests are of young birds as they are still not skillful enough to make nests on straight planks like those experienced ones.

As I had mentioned before the priority is to capture young birds to build up colonies of birds therefore installing fake nests in farms is a must if we are going after young Swiftlets.

They are many types of fake nests available in the market often it is costly. Thru my experiences there are no differences between those sold in the market and those make from Styrofoam other than cost.
In fact on my personal opinion I preferred Styrofoam fake nests as I could shape them whatever size and shape that liked by Swiftlets.

There are made from different types of material, rubber, plastic, silicon, etc..For me I still prefer those self made or hand made one by myself from Styrofoam. The Styrofoam you could get it from the hardware shops. It comes in 1x2x4’ size.

In such you can create any shapes, sizes and thickness according to your creativity. This is the most interesting part as you could come out with few shapes or designs, when one is favored by the birds then you can continue to use back the same design.

I cut them to the shape of birds nests imitate the original shape of bird’s nests cup. The birds seemed to liking it so much.

Put them 2 feet from the corners or wall and tweeters. I put around 20-30 pcs per floor. Don’t over do it I have seen many farmers putting them almost on every plank. This is not the way to do it. In Swiftlet farming it doesn’t mean the more the better. Over done it will cause harm, “Remember”.

After I cut them I soaked them in pail filed with Love Potion for few days. Alternately you could paint them with a brush with Love Potion but with paint brush you have to paint at least 4 times after every coat dried, do it every alternate day. After that make sure it is 100% dried. Put them under the sun for at least 2 days.

After all are done now you can fix them at your farms. The Styrofoam fake nest helps Swiftlets to stay and make nests in new farms. It also can be fixed in old farms that already have nests especially at areas in the farm that are yet have nests. Eg: If the left section of the farm has 40 nests and the right section has got 1 or 2 nests or none at all you can fix the Styrofoam nests there to spread the population. I have done this before.

Rest assured Swiftlets will build their nests on the Styrofoam nests if you do it this way. I applied this technique in all my farms. If you follow and do it correctly with all micros at it acceptable level you will see nests in your farms within few months time.
