To Prevent Thief with Alarm System

To prevent thief from our farms we could add some security gadgets in it. Some of the common ones are alarm system, cctv, etc.

There are two most use alarm system, one is the vibrate sensor type and the other one is the motion sensor type. The Vibrate type alarms will on if it sensed vibration. This happened when someone hacking the walls or the doors. If the thieves enter thru the Entrances hole without causing vibration then the alarm will not on or sound.

Where as for the motion type the alarm will only on if it sensed movement. Normally it uses the infra sensor beam. It could be placed anywhere in the farm especially at the entrance hole. A timer is set on certain hour for the alarm to function. Some good alarm only sense large object that moved so small birds' movement wouldn't trigger the alarm.

The other way is placing steel bars at the entrance hole. Many are doing it. Somehow if the holes between the bars are not big enough it will obstruct the birds when they fly in and out of the farm.

(thieves really not welcome here...ha..ha..look at the steel bars.)

For this purposes the owners need not to install alarm which he could save money and no worries about alarm is triggered on during lightning or false on which could disturb neighbours.

Birds Fly into Uncompleted Farm

While I was busy hammering nail at the roving area of a new farm few Swiftlets flew into the half completed farm.

Two of my construction workers and I were surprised to see it. I use to bring along my camera with me but this time I didn't as I need to climb up and down the ladder and hold hammer.

It seemed that birds are not afraid of us. They came in thru the entrance hole turn few rounds and headed to the nesting. All of us were shocked to see it. After a couple of minute they flew out.

Few minutes later another 6 birds fly in again this time only 4 of them headed to the nesting.There was no sound, we had just completed the roving area only. I was happy to see how the birds reacted towards the uncompleted farm.

It was a good sign and I am sure they will come back when the farm is completed.

I guess once they liked the farm the will fly in even there are humans in it.

Weather Affecting Farms

Weather is one of the Macro factors that affect farms. These factors are wind, raining season, drought, etc.

As we live in the tropical country which there are seasons of hot days without rain and towards the end of the year rain and storm are common.

Observation on these helps you to understand how these affect your farms.

Wind is one of the most important factors that one needs to understand. Strong wind makes it hard for birds to fly. That is why in certain area when the monsoon started you would see that number of birds used to appear in hundred or thousand then suddenly reduced.

Understanding of the above helps in placement of entrance hole which is one of the most important criteria of a successful farm.

If taken likely new farms would take a longer time for birds to stay and make nest.

Inconsiderate Farmers

The lack of understanding and wrong perception of how a good a swiftlet farm should be had influenced farmers resorted to myth that created nuisance to others.

One of the good examples is sound, some farms are playing their volume too low while others too high. In areas that have many farms sound war is very common. This irritated their neighbors therefore making them complaining to the local council. So in this case who is the one should be blamed?

Besides that some are very inconsiderate in a sense that when they renovate their farms they can't be bordered about the eye sore that they created. Bricks are not plastered and painted, all Pvc pipes are exposed, etc. Can't they be considerate? Perhaps they want to show off or telling the whole town that they are doing Swiftlet farming.

(The whole roles of shops are Swiftlet farms. The ventilation pipes are covered with aluminum windows to camouflage. The aluminum windows are not cheap. The owners willing to spend to create a good looking exterior. How many would do that?)

Well in such cases If the council takes action I will be on the side of the council. Why must we create or make farms that attract attention? Wouldn't it be good if no one knows that there are farms at that area? When there are no complain the then council won't disturb you.

We attract the attention of birds not the council or our neighbors, don't mistaken it. If you can't even differentiate it then harvesting many kgs is going to be a continued dream that never came thru.

Hidden Agenda in Mukah, Sarawak.

What happened in Mukah, Sarawak has hidden agenda. Source says there are seemed to be less demand on cave nest lately.

This is due to more oversea buyers looking for house nests. This affected the KOPI money of the related department who are taking care of caves and forest. To retaliate they are now punishing the Bh owners for affecting their side income.

This is a very common revenge strategy of Malaysia Boleh spirit.

No Turning Back In Swiftlet Farming

My apology for not posting new articles recently as I am busy setting up few new farms for my readers.

Currently there are 4 farms now need to be completed by end of this month and another 3 next month. Wow, traveling up and down taking lots of my time without forgetting I also have other job commitments. Never mind I love doing Swiftlets farming.

Starting and getting involved in Swiftlet farming is easy but making success farm is hard. Therefore if you want to get involved make sure your knowledge foundation in swiftlet farming is strong.

Don't be mistaken! Not in term of monetary but in term of skill and knowledge. “Money can not Justify success in Swiftlet farming” It doesn’t mean that more money you spend on building your farm will out perform others that spend far less.

It has to be on the right track at the beginning. There is no turning back in Swiftlet farming investment. In fact it is a one way ticket. I came across a reader that tells me that he wanted to build 3 entrance holes , so that in case if the birds don't prefer the entrance hole he can have an options to close or open up the other.

He also tells me that he would not want to hack too many parts of his shop lot because in case if he can't make it in swiftlet farming then the re-renovating back wouldn't be too costly.


I told him Mr. R “No. 1; It showed clearly that your knowledge of entrance hole is lack and you can't decide where to put them. You are very uncertain and indecisive therefore you have to make extra entrance holes. If you are knowledgeable you wouldn’t have made so many entrance holes. Because placing entrance hole is a clear cut thing.


No.2; It showed that you are very uncertain and have no confident in your farm. Therefore you are anticipating it to fail and there is a fall back plan.


If those who wanted to build a farm and have a second fall back plan .It shows that they are not ready to own farms. In such cases I would advise them to hold on first.


In Swiftlet farming there is no turning back. Once you make a farm it has to be the best if not how could you compete with 70k farms in Malaysia.


Every single part of the farm serves it purposes. Neglecting one would put a threat to you farm. So you must know what you are doing.

When a farm is made, from scratch every single part be it the wall, the concrete, partition, the entrance hole, etc .All have to be precise and detail in term of Swiftlet friendly.

We can't simply whack and hope for miracle. I can guarantee you that miracle will not happen.

Learn more first before you jump into the band wagon. There is no turning back.

Finally I got my PC back. It is about a week without the PC. At least I could rest.


Well it seemed while I was resting their are some very helpful Swiftlet bloggers , endlessly and continuously giving free publicity to the Love Potion.

I sincerely thanking them for doing such a good job. I really want to buy them dinner. Well some time it is hard to stay on top as a market leader due to envy but with the incidental help that created free publicity by these swiftlets bloggers it helped the LP remains as best selling. Instead of sabotaging Indirectly it turned out as helping . Thanks for the free publicity bro.....really appreciated it. Keep up the good work.

Therefore they buy one and the result showed positive hence they became instant regular user. This helped the sales and popularity of the Love Potion.

Making New Farm Works

I was at a friend place quite late yesterday nite. While we were busy discussing about his new farm design I received many SMS.

One of the Sms was about the Love Potion. Indeed the sender of the Sms was very happy and at the same time worrying that the Love potion is out of stock. Before this we had spoken thru the phone while his farm was under construction.

He wanted to use the Love Potion for his new farm therefore he had bought a bottle for trying out and the result was fantastic. With the excitement he send this Sms to me;

Malaysia Swiftlet Farming Sanctuary

Well, we Malaysian sure have something to be proud of in Swiftlet farming. I believe if all Swiftlet farmers understand this trade well in no time we would be the world's no: 1 Edible bird nests producer.

Currently Indonesia is the world's no: 1 exporter. They do buy raw nest from Malaysia and process it before market them to Singapore, China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, etc. In term of best nest quality Malaysia is still no: 1

Nothing is impossible. Look at how we made in Oil Palm, Rubber, etc. In fact the Swiftlet farming is silently growing without noticing by many, even those that are in this industry.

We shouldn't look far abroad to have a foresight of fortress type of farms or sanctuary for farms and start "jaw dropping" . In fact in our own country there many farms of such already existed and many more are coming up. All these farms are producing good quality of nests in volume.

Most of these farms have the best micro environment that liked by birds from here the growth of nests and birds’ populations are tremendous. A double or triple fold is uncommon. But similarly there are still many in such area struggling for years to achieve the first 10 nests.

Nevertheless the number of nests in total for export shall increase as the number of farms increase. So Bravo to those who started the Farm Sanctuary!

Right Location but Wrong Farm

The whole Hari Raya festive holidays I was traveling. Visiting farms and solving problems facing by them.

The places I visited were one of the few pioneer Swiftlet farming places in the North of Malaysia. Parit Buntar, which I am sure those who had been long enough in this industry know this place.

The geographical nature of this area is superb with abundant of food. This area covers a huge muddy mangrove area which is the source of food chain for all birds. Therefore it is not surprised there are many Swiftlets here. It is the hunting ground for Swiftlets.

Those towns that surrounded or around this path of food chain also benefited thus many Swiftlet farms were built to capitalize on the growing population of birds. To name a few " Bagan Serai, K.Kurau, K. Gula,etc.

Nevertheless with plentiful of vegetation and birds’ population I am sad to see many failed farms here too. I guess it was due to the lack understanding of how a good Swiftlet farm should be built.

Therefore with many poor designed farms coming up and this pushes the farms failed rate higher each year. Thus those that are greatly made and designed will continue to record good growth yearly and those that are poorly designed will continue to be the same for many years to come (no nests or after 3 yrs below 20 nests).

So it is common to see good farms with many birds & nests continued to attract even more new birds and failed farms continued to fail badly. (So the rich become richer and the poor become poorer).

I guess we can't escape from the "Law of Survival". The weakest one will soon diminished.

So something needs to be done if one wants to change from poor to rich. Thru my experiences of visiting countless failed farms I sometimes laughed drop dead. You won't believe what I saw.

There are farms that were built and designed by reputable person that did not take consideration of the basic of how a good farm should be build. Some of these reputable persons had built countless farms and had organized seminars.

Many occasions the moment when I walk into the failed farms I already knew who actually built and designed the farm.

As I tell the owner he replied “How come you know?". I replied, it was a pure duplication and there were no extra efforts of adapting the farm's design for that particular area. So how would you expect it to work?

I had seen many failed farms that are located in Selangor, Melaka, Johor,etc which done by the same persons which duplicate 100% of it own works and used back the same design or plan whenever they build a new farms in areas like S.Petani, A.Setar, B.Serai,Penang, K.Bharu, Krai,etc. It was a Pure Carbon COPY.

These guys merely have 1 design or 1 plan and use it for all farms that they built. In fact the colors of all these farms are the same. “Not forgetting the Swiftlet Chirping sound"

How can Swiftlet farm is uniform “no way" If Swiftlet farm is uniform then all farms should be 100% success. The 80/20 failed rate ratio had indicated clearly that Swiftlet farm can not be and never be uniform, therefore if your farm is one of them then “good Luck".

Due to this duplication therefore even in good areas like the above there are still many failed farms.

Well this was the reason I was invited to visit failed farms and revive them.

Reviving Failed farms " How do you know it is being done properly?"

( look at those DKs behind me, there are so many of them. To win a war you must understand your enemy positioning & activities well.)

One needs an aerial view of the farm (on the roof top) to understand the surrounding and the placement of the entrance hole, the size, the height, etc in order to rectify the problems and give recommendations.

How could one solves or revives a failed farm without even going up the roof? It is not completely done if without seeing from the roof top. " How many actually do this?"

I'm sure you know what I mean.

Back from Farm Visiting

Just got back from the North again for farm visiting ( reviving failed farms). This time ventured futher to Bagan Serai, Parit Buntar,Nibong Tebal, Jawi, B.M'tajam and Seberang prai.



These were the some pioneer areas where Swiftlet farming started many years ago.



I shall post my visit here soon as I am dam tire from this trip, got to take a rest first. Don't worry, I shall keep you all up dated .
