小燕子被螞蟻殺死

如果你願意的話, 就把它完全怪罪于目前原始燕窩的低價格。這並不代表你可以完全放棄你一直所做著的"燕屋農場維修"。


一向來我們都會在一個月裏有一次或兩次到燕屋農場，那些是好的日子。現在，很多人都放棄了之前所做的一切。維護可以幫助改善燕屋農場的內部環境，這樣燕子的數量會僅僅增加。它也可以找出問題，我們一定要在燕屋農場才能知道什麼。沒有我們的到場，我們也不知道任何事情。

我被邀請參觀位於Carey島(Jugra)的燕屋農場。我認識這位燕屋主已經有一陣子了。這是他最新的燕屋農場，他總共有4間燕屋農場。他向我抱怨關於目前低價格的原始燕窩，這使他失去了對照顧他燕屋農場的興趣。他不是唯一受到影響的人，外面有很多面臨同樣情況的人，包括我。我並沒有免除這種情況，因為我自己本身也有許多燕屋農場。

他之前有打電話給我，我也向他解釋過。他喜歡抱怨，我知道他的人爲。他的第一間和第二間的燕屋農場也做的很好，第三間有400多的燕窩。在他的區域中這被認為很好了，因爲這個區域已經有很多燕屋農場。

第四間是有問題的，是相當倒楣的。大約在2011年底的時候開始的，當時正是政府實施和執行各種各樣不現實和不合理的條例和法律，超出了可實現的時間。就在這個時候許多燕屋主對養燕失去了信心。

就是因爲這樣，他再也不照顧第四間燕屋農場。不在是每個月的做維修，現在他每3-4 個月才做一次。最近，他發現許多死的小燕子在他的燕屋農場和他很驚慌，趕快打電話給我的説明。

"James我需要你的幫忙。我的燕屋農場裡有很多死燕子。你知道為什麼嗎?"（看來我應該什麼都知道的。。。哈。。。哈)

"是大燕子還是小燕子?"

"它都是幼燕子和小燕子。是什麽東西做的，James?"

"J先生，你的燕屋農場一定已經被害蟲感染。讓我看一看，我才可以找出原因。

這就是我如何會去到Carey島，一個出名海鮮的地方。

死燕子到處都是，燕屋農場是臭死了，氣味是來自爛掉死燕子和那些死在燕窩裏的。即使J先生有幾間成功的燕屋農場，但這並沒有幫助他發現他燕屋農場正面臨的威脅。

我問他這發生了多久？他回答說，"幾個月了"。這是非常愚蠢的他讓這個情況延長。我再次問他，你沒有看到更少的燕子回來和燕窩的數量已下降了嗎？沒有，James，我只是懶得看多少燕子回來因為原始燕窩的價格跌得如此低。現在我看到了死燕子，所以我打電話給你。

他的答覆真的使我很生氣。他是很幸運的因為我有很好的憤怒管理。可悲的事是很多死的幼燕子。我感覺很難過。這些燕子為您築燕窩以便您可以賣燕窩，養活你的家人，但是現在燕窩的價格跌得很低，而您卻拋棄它們。你看到人類可真小氣。

以我的經驗，我知道有一些昆蟲可以殺死這些小燕子，絕對不是大型的食肉動物，因爲它整個屍體仍然完好無損。我爬上了梯子，並做一些CSI法醫檢查。嚇死我的是所有的燕窩都佈滿紅螞蟻。數千上萬的在吃小燕子的肉。

這還不是全部，它們甚至咬過燕子蛋，它們真正的喜歡裡面的蛋黃。螞蟻並不對燕窩感興趣，它們想要的是小燕子和燕子蛋。它們是肉食性，它們比蟑螂更危險，因爲蟑螂只吃燕窩。

這可能殺死整個燕屋農場和燕子人口。從這些螞蟻痛苦的叮咬使小燕子從燕窩裏跳出來，在這種情況下你可以在地板上看到這麼多的小燕子。

燕子父母不會再棲息在同一個燕窩，因為紅螞蟻會再攻擊它們。這會迫使它們尋找一個新的家。你鄰居的燕屋農場作為它們的新家將是不錯的選擇。

是不容易擺脫它們的，你們很多人當面對這種情況會用氣霧劑殺蟲劑噴霧（Shieldtox、 RidSect等）來殺死螞蟻。但這並不能解決問題，在木板表面和燕窩上的螞蟻可以被殺害，但是那些被隱藏在壁角板背後和屋頂的螞蟻就無法被殺害。此外，氣霧劑殺蟲劑能殺死燕屋農場内其他的燕子，因為它包含丙炔菊酯和d-phenothrin強大的毒藥。(鑒定： 毒性、 水資源污染潛在、 生態毒性）

與擬除蟲菊酯化合物-噴霧殺蟲劑中毒的症狀

- 刺激皮膚和眼睛。

- 對聲音或觸摸感到刺激、 面部感覺異常、 刺痛、 刺痛或爬行在皮膚上，麻木的感覺煩躁。

- 頭痛、 頭暈、 噁心、 嘔吐、 腹瀉、 過度流涎、 疲勞。

最好殺絕的方法，我使用了中國製造的螞蟻毒，你可以從我或五金店買的到。這將殺螞蟻到其根部。我們都知道螞蟻是群體生活，只有螞蟻王可以在繁殖，其他的都是士兵或工人。如果您想要殺死整個群體你不得不殺死螞蟻王。噴灑殺蟲劑只有殺死工人、 螞蟻王仍然坐在我們不知道深部的地方。有了這個中國製造的螞蟻毒，工人將把它帶回到螞蟻窩給螞蟻王吃。一旦螞蟻王死了，整個群體也是如此。 (螞蟻王具有任何的昆蟲之一 — — 最長的壽命最多至28年圈養 ＊ wikipeadia ＊）

我放了一個假窩在佈滿紅螞蟻燕窩的旁邊。我倒了一點中國製造的螞蟻毒在這個假窩，然後做標記"P"(毒)。事實上，在幾分鐘內我看見一些螞蟻一條綫的走內假窩。賓果 ！它們正在把毒藥帶囘。

J先生是很吃驚地看到這一點。他知道有死小燕子在地板上，但他不知道紅螞蟻正在攻擊小燕子。這是因為他沒有管理好他的燕屋農場，就好像以前一樣。他已停止了噴塗 Fedona和停止做病蟲害防治，原因就是原始燕窩價格已經下降。

這是一個很差勁的藉口。他放棄了他的燕屋農場和現在所有的燕子都死了。要怪就怪他自己。

現在他擔心他的燕屋農場。他問我："James，我其他燕屋農場的燕窩已經有一陣子沒有增加了，它們都面對同樣的問題嗎?"我的答覆是，"有可能，你永遠不會知道直到您自己查查看。

所以，所有讀者請不要放棄您的維修工程或延遲或到較長的間隔期進行拉伸。照顧您的燕屋農場，因爲它們在好的日子照顧了您，現在是你感恩的時候了。

Young Swiftlets (CHICKS) Kill by Red Ants

Blame it on the current low price of Raw Nest if you wish. This doesn’t mean that you can totally abandon what you have been doing all this while “Swiftlet Farm Maintainance”.

We used to visit our Swiftlet farms once or twice a month, those were the good days. This time many of us are abandoning what we used to do. Maintenance helps to improve the Internal environment of the Swiftlet farm thus increase Swiftlets population. It helps us to identify problems, we have to be in the Swiftlet farm in order to know what is going on. Without our presence, we won’t know anything.

I was asked to visit a Swiftlet farm located in Pulau Carey (Jugra). I have known the owner Mr.J for quite a while. This is his latest Swiftlet farm, in total he has 4 Swiftlet farms. He complained to me about the current low price of Raw Nests, and this made him lose interest in taking care of his Swiftlet farms. He is not the only one who is affected, there are many out there facing the same situation that's included me. I am not exempt from such a situation as I have many Swiftlet farms myself.

He had called me earlier, and I had explained this to him before. He likes to complain, I knew him well. His 1st and 2nd Swiftlet farms are doing O.K the 3rd one is with 400 plus nests. That is considered good in his area as this area is heavily populated with many Swiftlet farms.

The 4th one is the problem and was very unlucky. Started off somewhere in the late 2011 the time when the government imposed and implemented all sorts of unrealistic and unreasonable regulations and laws that are beyond achievable. This is the time where many Swiftlet farmers lost their hearts for Swiftlet farming.

With this in mind, he couldn’t bother to take care of the 4th Swiftlet farm. Instead of doing the maintenance works on a monthly basis, now he does it once every 3-4 months. Lately, he discovered many dead chicks in his Swiftlet farm and he panicked and called me for help.

“James I need your help. There are many dead birds in my Swiftlet farm. Do you know why?” (It seemed I knew everything ha. ha.)

“Is it adult birds or chicks?”

“It is young birds and Chicks. What does this, James?”

“ Mr. J, your Swiftlet farm must have been infested with pests. Let me have a visit I shall find out the causes.”

This is how I ended up in Pulau Carey a place famous for seafood.

Dead chicks are everywhere, the Swiftlet farm stinks, the smell came from the rotten dead birds and also those that died in the nests. Even though Mr.J had few successful Swiftlet farms, but this didn’t help him in discovering the threat that his Swiftlet farm is facing.

I asked him how long  this has  been going on? He replied, “ few months”. That was very silly of him letting this situation prolong. I asked him again, didn’t you see fewer birds coming back and the number of nests has dropped? No, James, I just don’t bother to see how many birds coming back because the Nest Price is so low. Now I see dead birds , so I call you.

His reply really gets into my nerves. He is lucky because I have got good anger management. The sad thing was many young chicks died. I felt very sad. These birds build nests for you so you could sell them and feed your family, and now the nests price is low and you abandoned them. You see how mean a human can be.

With my experience, I knew there are some insects that killed these Chicks, definitely not big predators as the whole dead body still intact. I climbed up the ladder and do some CSI forensic checking. To my horror all the nests were infested with Red Ants. Thousand of them feasting on the meat of the chick.

That's not all, they even bite through the egg shell they really enjoy the yolk inside. The ants are not interested in the nests they want the chicks and eggs. They are carnivorous, they are more dangerous that cockroaches which only eat nests.

This could potentially kill the whole farm and the birds population. The painful bites from these ants force the chicks to jump out from their nests, as in this case you could see so many chicks on the floor.

Parents will not roost at the same nests or spot as before because the Red ants will attack them. This would force them to seek for a new home. Your neighbor’s Swiftlet farm would be a good choice as their new home.

It is not easy to get rid of them, many of you when facing such situation would have used an aerosol insecticide spray (Shieldtox, RidSect, etc.) to kill the ants. But this doesn’t solve the problem, ants that are on the surface of the planks and on the nests can be killed but not those that are hidden behind the corner boards and in the ceiling. Furthermore, aerosol insecticide could kill other birds in the Swiftlet farm because it contains Prallethrin and d-phenothrin a powerful poison. (Identification: toxicity, water pollution potential, ecological toxicity)

Symptoms of Poisoning with Pyrethroid Compounds - aerosol insecticide spray

-Irritation of skin and eyes.

- Irritability to sound or touch, abnormal facial sensation, sensation of prickling, tingling or creeping on the skin, numbness.

- Headache, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, excessive salivation, fatigue.

- In severe cases: fluid in the lungs and muscle twitching may develop. Seizures may occur and are more common with more toxic cyano-pyrethroids

Therefore, I don’t encourage the use of aerosol insecticide in Swiftlet farms.

The best way to terminate them, I use the common China made Ant poison where you could get it from me or  Hardware shops. This will kill Ants to its roots. As we know ants live in colonies, only the Queen could reproduce the rest are soldiers or workers. If you want to kill the entire colony you have to kill the Queen. Spraying an insecticide only kill the workers, the Queen sit deep inside somewhere we don’t know. With this China made Ants poison the workers will bring it back to the den for the queen eat. Once the Queen is dead so does the colony. (Queen ants have one of the longest lifespans of any known insect – up to 28 years in captivity * wikipeadia*)

I put a fake nest next to the nests that had been infested with Red ants. I pour a little of this China made Ant poison into the fake nest marked it with “P” (poison). In fact within minute I saw some ants crawling over inline toward the fake nest. Bingo! They are taking the poison back.

Mr.J was shocked to see this. He knew there were dead Chicks on the floor , but he didn’t know the Red Ants are attacking the Chicks. This is because he didn’t manage his Swiftlet farm well as he did before. He had stopped spraying Fedona and stop doing pest control because the Raw nests price had dropped.

This is a lousy excuse. He had abandoned his Swiftlet farm and now all the chicks are dead. He is the one to be blamed.

Now he is worrying about his other Swiftlet farms. He asked me, “ James, the nests in my other Swiftlet farms had not increased for quite a while are they facing the same problem?” My reply was, “ Well it could be, you never know until you check them out.”

So to all readers please don’t abandon your maintenance works or delay or stretch them to a longer interval period. Take care of your Swiftlet farms they had taken care of you during the good time now it is the time for you to show your appreciation.

* Note : Once the Ant colonies had been killed remove the marked fake nests and clean them thoroughly.

燕屋农场的环绕区的大小和形状

环绕区是燕子通過入口洞後，第一个到达的部分。這也是燕子飞出燕屋农场之前，绕圈而飞几秒钟或幾分鐘的地方。它們会多次重複這个行為。這是適應過程的一部分。這个做法是在它們不熟悉的環境中進行的。這个進程是用来觀察有任何潛在的威脅。為了做到這一點，它們需要懸停在一个頗大的面積，而这个环绕区在這个進程中扮演一个支援作用。

我們看到很多的書籍、 從互聯網的資料，还有從朋友的資訊往往建議环绕区的大小應至少12 x12ft。這是对嗎？我們是否應该毫无疑问的跟随呢？如果您要跟随，那就随你决定。如果這是正確的环绕区大小，那么为什么有这个环绕区大小的燕屋农场还是失败，无非吸引燕子在环绕區逗留更長的時間? 作為一個經驗法則，它們越在环绕區飛的更久，機會就是它們會在燕屋農場永久居所。

环绕區有各种各样的大小和形狀，有些是方形的和一些是长形的 （我之前曾看过一個橢圓形的）。它並不重要，只有是可以容納燕子想要的是什麼。

12x12ft的环绕区是太小，雖然許多專家建議這是最低可接受的大小。我見過許多燕屋農場的环绕区是小於12x12ft，还有一些是8x10ft，有些甚至更小的。

 入口洞是燕子必須通過的第一防線。一旦它被滲入，环绕区將是第二防衛線。第三的防線是在第二個入口洞或造窝区的大門。燕子要打破所有這些的障礙，才可以到造窝的區域。

 如果您做了一个很艱難的防禦線，那么就很難滲入，那也就是说你正在殺死您自己的燕屋农场。所以，做一個让燕子觉得交通方便的燕屋農場，你就會更加邁進一步成為一個百萬富翁的燕屋主。

The Size and Shape of The Roving Area in Swiftlet farm



Roving area is the first section of a Swiftlet farm the Swiftlets reach after flying through the Entrance hole. This is a place where Swiftlets fly in a circular manner of seconds or minutes before they exit. They repeat this act several times. This is part of the adaptation process. This practice takes place in an environment which they are not familiar with. This process is to observe any potential threats. In order to do this they need to hover in a sizable area and the Roving size plays a role in supporting this process.

Therefore, the design of the Roving Area in term of size, height and shape is particularly crucial because this will influence the adaptive time. Well designed Roving allows birds to fly freely without obstructions and shorten the adaptive time. Obviously the shorter period of adaptation the faster the birds will fly into the Nesting Area to stay and to build nests.

We came across many books, data from the internet and information from friends often suggested that the Roving size should be at least 12 x12ft. Is this correct? Should we follow this without any queries? Well it is up to you if you wish to follow. If this is the correct Roving size, then why Swiftlet farms with such sizes failed to attract birds to stay longer in the Roving area?, As a rule of thumb the longer they fly in the Roving area the higher chance they will make the farm their permanent home.

Roving Area comes in many sizes and shapes some are square, and some are rectangular (I had seen an oval shape before). It does not matter what shapes they are as long it could accommodate what birds want.

The Roving size of 12x12ft is too small, though many experts suggested that this is the minimum acceptable size. I have seen many Swiftlet farms roving smaller than 12x12ft, many are 8x10ft some even smaller.

Through my many years of experience, I discovered the Roving size should be at least 15x 15 Ft or more. Many wouldn’t want to sacrifice the space in the farm for the Roving. They afraid space given to Roving will reduce the space of the nesting. It is another silly perception (pound foolish penny wise). If the Roving area does not attract birds to hover longer chances are they wouldn't make the farm their permanent home.,

If the building size is 20x 70 Ft then the roving should be 15 x's 20ft (or bigger). No point of making a 12x12ft Roving area with the remainder 5ft at the side of the Roving as Nesting area. I assure you that the 5ft Nesting area next to the Roving is seldom congregate by birds.

The Entrance Hole is the first defense line which the birds have to go through. Once it has been penetrated, the roving area is the second defense line. The third defense line is at the second entrance hole or door to the Nesting Area. The birds have to break all these lines of barriers in order to make it to the Nesting area.

If you make tough defensive lines, and it is hard to be penetrated then you are killing your own Swiftlet farm. So make a Swiftlet farm that is easily accessible by Swiftlets and you will be a step closer to becoming a Millionaire Swiftlet farmer.

我用燕木板，因為它們是更加重的、一旦食肉動物被卡住後它將無法彈動的在地上。有了這種技術往往得它可以捕抓到一只以上的捕食動物。確保您慷慨的使用老鼠膠，太少它黏不到。木板的寬度應該至少6"或更多，如果太窄它就會黏不住食肉動物。那有老鼠膠的木板應該是離籠子6"。這是最佳的距離，因爲它會容易讓食肉動物從籠子的一邊走到另外一邊。如果你想要的話，您也可以釘木板在地上。

Most Effective Predator Trap

(Live Bait Sticking Trap)



This is how you can catch predators effectively in Swiftlet Farm. Simple, economical and deadly if you would like to call it. This is a trap that predators cannot and will not resist, a lively tender young chick an easy prey awaits them.

This idea came to me when I realized that the predators that we are after are cunning and they love eating Swiftlets. If I want to trap them successfully, I need to put a live Swiftlet in a cage as bait. Using Swiftlet is totally out of a question as the cage is too small it would die in captivity. I need a bird, small in size and could live in a cage, can be fed and easily available. I want a bait that could move and run that would churn up the aggression of the predators. This would trigger their natural instinct of attacking, just like a dog sees a rabbit it will go beyond crazy.

So a chick is the solution, furthermore, I could buy it from shops that sell Chicken feed. If you live in the rural areas there are plenty especially at the Pasar pagi market ( morning market). Get those that are a week old, too young it may not survive the Swiftlet farm environment which is damp and cold at night.

Make sure you get a strong and tough cage. I have incidents of cages being ripped apart. The cage is to protect the chick, I am sure we wouldn’t want the chick to get hurt. The chick risks its life to help us to catch the predators. We should protect the chick.

Put water and chicken feed in a bowl that could last 2-3 days. (Use Small Mineral Water bottles cut them into half just good enough for the chick to reach. Tight them firmly to the edge of the cage.). You may check the Farm every 2 days. If the predators are around within hours they will attack the cage.

I use some old and unwanted nesting planks joint them together making a square shape. Put the cage  in the middle of the square with 2 red bricks on top the cage. With the bricks on top the cage the predators won’t be able to lift the cage. This is to make sure the cage is at all time positioned in the middle. With the red bricks on top the cage the predators especially Hawks and Owls have to mount an attack from the side of the cage. This is where they are tricked to step on the Mouse glue around the cage.

I use planks because they are heavy, once the predators are stuck it will hold them to the ground. With this technique often it could catch more than one predator. Make sure you use the Mouse glue generously, too little it won’t work. The width of the planks should be at least 6” or more too narrow it won’t hold the predators well. The glued planks should be 6” away from the cage. This is the best distance where it could easily allow the predators to walk from side to side of the cage. You may also nail the planks into the floor if you want.

Place the trap in the roving area, this is the place where the predators would emerge. I won’t recommend the trap to be put in the nesting area. Once the predators are caught when they are not dead yet, they will frighten all the birds in the nesting area. Therefore it is better to place the trap at the Roving area.

在燕屋農場抓到老鷹

在幾個星期的盯梢之後，最終老鷹(小老鷹)被抓到了。這只老鷹只是出現在晚上（夜鷹)。它是被老鼠膠黏住的。它的翼展是大約1尺多。它有強大的爪與非常尖銳的喙。它的大小可以讓它輕鬆地飛入洞口，不會有任何困難。


這只老鷹比普通老鷹小，有它天生較小的翅膀和身，它可以很容易的迴旋，飛得比老鷹更快。與敏捷性和絕對的速度，它能很容易在天空中抓捕。老鷹的食療大多數是小動物如鳥類。它們可以比大多數的鳥類飛的快包括燕子。

它們可以在燕屋農場裏飛進飛出而不被CCTV發現。它們的速度是太快而不被CCTV獲取和錄下它們的動作，它們只會在螢幕上出現像影子一樣然後非常快的消失了。

在過去的幾個月裏，燕屋農場有死燕子和燕窩的數量沒有增加。一定出了什麼錯誤在燕屋農場裏。燕屋主不知道如何是好，問了我的意見。我告訴他燕屋農場裡一定有一些東西，"捕食動物"。從他的反應，我能感覺到他對我的答案不是很有信心，因爲他看不見任何東西在他的CCTV。

我知道眼看為証，但是在燕屋農場裏並不是所有的事情都可以輕鬆地記載尤其是在夜間。在這個案件，此老鷹比CCTV更明智。

他沒有別的選擇而設置了陷阱在燕屋農場裡面。在2天的時間內，該夜鷹被抓住了。他從來沒有想到是一隻老鷹。他只是期待可能是貓頭鷹或老鼠，就好像經常被燕屋主談論的一樣。

（可悲的是捕食動物已被殺了。我不會鼓勵這種做法但是我們沒有選擇）。

Hawk Caught in Swiftlet Farm

After many weeks of stalking, finally a Hawk (small Eagle) was caught. This Hawk only appears during night (Night Hawk). It was caught by using Mouse Glue. The wingspan is about 1 ft plus. It has powerful claws with extremely sharp talons. With its size it could easily enter the Entrance hole without any difficulty.

Hawks are smaller than Eagles, with its natural narrowed wings and smaller body size it could maneuver and fly faster than Eagles. With agility and sheer speed it could easily catch its preys in the air. Hawk feeds mostly on small animals such as birds. They could out-fly most birds including Swiftlets.

They could fly in and out of the Swiftlet farm without being detected by the CCTV. It is too fast for the CCTV to capture and record their movements, it appeared on the screen like a shadow and disappear quickly.

There were dead birds in the Swiftlet farm and the number of nests has not increased for many months. There must be something wrong inside the farm. The owner didn't know what to do and seek my advice. I told him there is something in his Swiftlet farm, “predators”. I could feel from his response that he wasn’t confident with my answer as he couldn’t see anything on his CCTV.

I know seeing is believing, but in Swiftlet farming not all things can be easily documented especially during night. In this case the Hawk outsmarted the CCTV.

He had no choice other than setting up traps inside his Swiftlet farm. Within 2 days the Night Hawk was caught.  Never had he expected a Hawk. He had anticipated owls or rats which often being talked about by many Swiftlet Farmers.

There are few types of Night Hawk that fly into Swiftlet farm. Another type that I have seen before is smaller in size and grey in color. There are often spotted at Swiftlet farms located in plantation and near secondary forest area.  

(It is sad that the Predator has to be killed. I won’t encourage such doing but we don’t have a choice).

什么时候才是最佳投资燕屋农场?

2012 年对大家来说并不是一个好过的年。中國對所有可食燕窩的進口限制。由于馬來西亞政府实行对未加工的燕窝出口控制，原本已经堆積了好多的货，现在根本就是雪上加霜。


有了這些所以的條例和限制中，收到最大打击的就是燕屋主。未加工的燕窩價格完全是跌到谷底。自那時以來，它至少跌了60-70%，到現在世界最大消費(中國)實行了進口限制，整個养燕業(馬來西亞)简直就是在水深火熱之中。

這種情況是否会"僵持"延長？真正的沒有人知道。那些可以坚持的人一定受益。也許再多6 個月或更多，機會是，有关機構可能會改變，也是我們所有人都在期望的事。还記得，無論什么上升了也會有下降的时候，反之亦然。

現在就是要堅持不懈的時候，任何东西都会守得云开见明月，但是這次的云似乎还蛮遥远的，但是我相信它一定會來，只是時間的問題罢了。

当一切平定下来时，那些可以守的着的人就是黄帝了。不是更好的留在市場上吗？当您有一大堆的燕窝（来收穫）您隨時可以卖，而不是等到平定下来才開始培植。培植是需要時間的，等到你可以開始有贏利的收穫时，你可能是在後面了。它需要3-5年才可以實現這个目標。在3-5 年的時間任何事情都可能已更改。这就是風險、 越高的風險就有越高的回報。

我看到一些燕屋主已经不再重视燕屋农场了，一些拉回自己的投資，遺棄了維修工程，等等，原因就是跌到谷底的燕窩價格。但是对一些人来说這是一個機會，用好的價格購買現有的燕屋农场，更少的競爭等等。

我用不同的方式来看待，在股票市場價格低的時候进股，等到股票價格高的时候才出售，这不是上上之策吗。如果這種情況適合我投資方法的看法，那么現在就是进入养燕业正確的時間。

现在有50个燕窝或更的燕屋农场在市場上多的是。這些燕屋的價格至少是20-50%的便宜，与前幾年相比。所以為什麼还要等待呢？現在就是进入养燕业最適當的時間。買一個已經有燕窝的燕屋农场，那您就不必等待长的時間。但是你必須知道哪一个燕農农场才可以買。即使有燕窝，你也不可以随便買。一些燕屋农场可能没有增加燕窝的潜能（燕窝的數量）。這就是技巧的时候，如果你是夠熟練和有經驗的，你就知道哪一個才有增長的潛力。請記住並不是所有的燕屋农场是相同的。

When is The Right Time to Invest in Swiftlet Farming?

2012 was not an easy year for all of us. China has imposed restriction on importation on all Edible Bird Nests. This adds salt to wound as our Bird Nests stock piled up when Malaysia government implements regulation to control the export of raw Nests.

With all these regulations and restrictions in placed, the hardest hits were the Swiftlet farmers.  The raw nests price drops rock bottom. It has reduced 60-70% ever since, and now with the biggest consumer of EBN in the world (China) imposing restrictions on importation the whole Swftlet farming Industry ( Malaysia) is in dire straits.

Will this situation “Stalemate” prolong? Nobody really knows. Those who could hold on will definitely benefit. Perhaps for another 6 months or more, chances are the governing body may change which all of us have been hoping for. Remember whatever goes up will come down and vice versa.

Now is the time to persevere, every clouds has its silver lining but this time the silver lining seems far but I believe it will come, it is a matter of time.

Those who could pull through would be king in the future when the dust settled. Isn’t it better to be in the market with plenty of Nests available at your disposal (harvesting) rather than to only start cultivating when the dust has settled. Cultivating takes time, by the time you could start to harvest profitably you may be way behind. It takes 3-5 years to achieve this. Things may have changed in 3-5 years time. It is all about risk, higher the risk higher the returns.

I have seen farmers neglecting their Swiftlet farms, some pulled back their investments, abandoned the maintenance works and so on, reason was the Nest price has gone down rock bottom. Well for others this is an opportunity, buying existing Swiftlet farms at good price, less competition, etc.

I look at it a different way, isn’t it right to go into the stock market when the stock prices are low and selling them when the prices are high. If this scenario fits my way of looking at investment then going into Swiftlet farming now is the right time.

Swiftlet farms with 50 nests or more are plenty in the market now up for grabs. The prices of these Swiftlet farms are at least 20-50% cheaper compare to previous years. So why wait? Now is the right time to go into Swiflet farming. Buy one that already have nests and you don’t have to wait long. But you must know which Swiftlet farms to buy. You can’t simply buy one even though there are nests. Some Swiftlet farms don’t have the potential to multiply (number of nests). This is where skill comes in, if you are skillful enough and have experiences you would know which one has the potential to grow. Remember not all Swiftlet farms are the same.

I have many readers who are also successful Swiftlet farmers, they buy Swiftlet farms and turn them around. They have been doing this for many years. Their targets are Swiftlet farms that have few hundred nests. Their strategies are simple, within a year or two they double the number nests with Love Potion and later selling it at a profitable price.

In other words they buy and sell Swiftlet farms. They add extra value on their products which is Swiftlet farms and selling it at a higher price. This is how they make money and this is how they invest.

For some, the situation we are facing now is disastrous for others it is an opportunity. It depends on how we look at it. Without disaster there is no opportunity. No pain No Gain. Higher the risk Higher the Returns. Be optimistic, I could assure you the silver lining will be here soon. It will shine in the second quarter of 2013, thereafter once the price of EBN stabilized they will be no rock bottom bargainable Swiftlet farms up for grabs anymore. Now is the time to go in!

老鷹攻擊燕子

最近我常看到許多食肉鳥類飛翔盤旋在燕屋農場的上面。我以為這是它們自然的行為，因為它們會在遷移期間飛從一個地區到另外一個地區。


是的，這些就是大家所稱的老鷹，它們有一些是候鳥，但有些不是。一些會在食物來源很豐富的地方生存繁殖，這就是生存。它們的後代都有食物的保證。

這些肉食幼鳥都有很大的胃口，它們必須經常被喂飽。在這些容易尋找食物的區域往往成爲這些鳥類做窩的首選，這樣它們就可以盡量的為它們的幼鳥帶回食物，經常的喂。

它們並沒有引起我的注意力，直到有一天我看到這個巨大的老鷹停留在我的燕屋農場的屋頂上。它們不僅在燕屋農場上面飛翔，而且停留在狗洞的上面。

該老鷹正在用屋頂的瓦片來清洗它的喙。這真正的讓我吃驚了，因爲這種行動是顯示這只老鷹剛剛吃完了一頓，或許是一些在入口洞環繞的美味小燕子。我是非常幸運的因為我帶著我的相機。我就馬上的拍了這些照片，在它飛走之前。

我肯定大家都有看到一些燕子環繞著老鷹和試圖啄它。它們為什麼會啄這些肉食鳥類，而且還是比它們大很多倍，更強大的呢？燕子們都是有智慧的鳥類，它們知道這些是它們的敵人。這些老鷹一定之前有殺害了許多燕子。

現在經常可以發現老鷹在城市的地區，這是因為提供食物的自然生境已經被快速的發展摧毀了。

現在燕屋農場都是它們的覓食地的選擇。這都是為了生存，在城市地區的燕屋農場都面臨位於種植園區的同樣威脅。

我建議所有燕屋農場燕的入口洞安上有鋒利的釘子。

Eagle Attacks Swiftlets

Lately I have been seeing many predatory birds flying circling high above Swiftlet farm areas. I thought this is their natural behavior as they fly from one area to another during their journey of migration.

Yes many of these Eagles or Hawk you may call them are migratory but some are not. Some will breed in the area where food sources are plenty, this is survival. Their offspring are guarantee food when a nest is built there.

Their chicks have great appetite they need to be fed many times. The area around the feeding ground often is chosen as a home for these predatory birds so that they could bring back food to feed the chicks as often as possible.

They didn’t catch my attention much until I saw this huge Eagle on top of the roof of a Swiftlet Farm. They were not only hovering above the Swiftlet farm but perched on top of the Dog Kennel.

The Eagle was cleaning its beak by scrapping it against the roof tiles. This really surprised me, such movement indicates the Eagle has just finished its meal, perhaps some delicious young Swiftlets that play around the Entrance hole. I was really lucky because I had my camera with me. I took these shots before it flew away.

I am sure some of you have seen Swiftlets circling around Eagle and trying to peck them. Why would they peck a bird of prey that is many times bigger and more powerful than them?  Swiftlets are smart birds they know who their enemies are. The Eagle must have killed many Swiftlets before.

Now Eagles are often spotted in urban areas, this is because their natural habitat that provides food has been destroyed by the rapid development.

Now Swiftlet farm is their choice of feeding ground. This is all about survival, Swiftlet farms in urban area face the same threat as those located in the Plantation area. 

I suggest all Swiftlet farms to have sharp spikes at the Entrace Hole.
