改建燕屋‧噪音擾人 百美園恐成引燕區

（士拉央9日訊）人潮擁擠的商業區出現引燕活動，商民擔心百美園（Wangsa Permai）商業區成為引燕區。

百美園其中一個頂樓單位在3個月前突然被改成燕屋，引燕者將喇叭安裝在屋頂，面對后方雙層排屋單位，屋子與引燕單位之間只有一個后巷距離，居民深受噪音問題困擾。

百美園花園有逾250戶居民作息備受引燕聲困擾，更擔心燕子帶來不明細菌，環境衛生受影響。

居民在曾多次致電士拉央市議會投訴，但不見任何行動，最后向甲洞區國陣主席劉開強投訴，后者與士拉央市議會官員一同前往巡視，並進入引燕單位屋頂查個究竟。

晚上也受困擾

居民指出，3個月前有關單位成為燕屋，引燕者為引燕，每天早上7時至晚上8時準時開啟喇叭，白天住宅區充斥著引燕的聲音，有時候晚上也聽到燕子叫聲。

居民說，數月來他們備受噪音困擾，不能入眠，就學的孩子不能專心溫習功課，噪音已嚴重影響他們的生活。

根據記者現場觀察，引燕單位前方有几個小洞口讓燕子出入，雖然屋頂只設一個喇叭，但聲量足以影響居民作息，住宅區入口處的警衛亭都可聽到引燕聲音。

由于引燕活動剛開始，引來的燕子只有少數，目前未見燕子成群或屎便到處的情況，但居民擔心，若引燕活動不受控制，該區將慘變引燕區。

居民要求市議會及通迅及多媒體委員會立即採取行動拆除喇叭，禁止任何商業中心引燕活動。

除了引燕問題，居民也面對商業單位管理層允許設電訊塔問題，居民擔心電訊塔幅射影響健康。

劉開強：備忘錄呈交市議會

劉開強指出，他在4月6日接獲居民投訴，居民過后于5月5日呈交備忘錄給士拉央市議會主席。

他說，他要求市議會官員及通訊及多媒體委員會官員一同到場巡視，惟行動中只有市議會官員出席。

他指出，市議會官員已表明將向通訊及多媒體委員會反映問題，在近2日內拆除喇叭，市議會也會向管理層了解租賃單位者，向依據道路、溝渠及建築物法令第70（12）條文下發出傳票，罰款1萬2500令吉。

他說，根據市議會做法，市議會將給期限讓業者自行拆除燕屋，限期后會才自行採取行動。

至于電訊塔問題，官員指將向委員會了解問題。

同時，市議會官員阿占指出，市議會將透過管理層尋找業者的資料，並援引以上法令對付業者。

他說，由于目前引燕指南還在擬定中，地方政府只能夠以上述法令對付業者。

針對電訊塔一事，他指出，市議會根據通訊及多媒體委員會發出的信函批准興建電訊塔，但市議會將要求委員會提呈詳細資料。

投訴石沉大海

我們3次向市議會投訴，但這投訴石沉大海，這一帶每天都聽到引燕的聲音，實在困擾。

還有，我們面對許多電訊塔幅射的困擾，我本身也因為電訊塔患上癌症，所幸現在已康復。

盡快採取行動

這些聲音從早上7時至晚上8時，每家的小孩不能專心做功課，有關當局應盡快採取行動

商業區可引燕？

關當局應該清楚讓我們知道，到底如此多人潮的商業區是否可以引燕。

照理在這些地方應該不可以有引燕活動，以免居民作息受困擾。

燕屋農場應該往那個方向呢?

(太陽的轉動改變從1月到12月影響了燕屋農場屋内的環境。)

一些要他們的燕屋農場面對南部，但是有一些喜歡面對北部的，被覺得這是最佳的方式，因為陽光不會直接地曬到牆壁的大部分。

Where the Direction of Bh should Face?

(Movement of the Sun changes from Jan to Dec that affect the Micro of Bh.)

Some wanted their Bhs to face South and some preferred it to face North, sighted this is the best way because the Sunlight doesn’t hit directly to the large portion of the wall.

Secondly many prefer the Bh Entrance hole to face East so that the morning Sun would work as a morning call to wake the birds up. If this is the case and if the birds would have to rely on the morning Sun to wake them up then those who suggested this is really silly.

Let’s not simply listen to what other had said, use your own common sense that God has given you unfortunately most of us never use them.

The direction of the Sun which rises from East to West will never change. But our Earth circling the Sun which tilts a certain degree from Jan to Dec each year will affect the direction of Sun shines toward the Earth. As we are at the Equator line therefore in certain months the Sun direction would move left to right.

For such instances no matter how you place your Bh all sides are tended to be exposed to the strong Sunshine.

The only thing you could do is to have a good wall insulation that prevents strong heat from affecting the internal micro.

One layer of brick, Sand bricks and so on can’t withstand the UV ray. It could penetrate thru the wall. 3 hours of direct exposure is all it takes to make the whole Bh hot.

Those Bhs that are not cemented or plastered, or cemented only one side will have this problem. Though some may argue that there are quite numbers of successful Bhs that are using one layer of brick. Well if they would have used double layer brick I am sure their harvests would have gone up triple and they could have done even better.

By understanding the movement of the Earth you would notice that no matter how or which direction you decided to place your Bh to avoid the heat from sunlight is of no use unless precaution is taken by having good insulating material. Somehow each side of the Bh wall would be directly hit by the UV ray depends on which month.

Often many would agree that the Shop lot unit has better successful rate .The Shop Lot unit is different compared to the Standalone. The Shop lot unit has advantages over the Standalone as both sides of its walls are naturally insulated or block by its neighbors. That is why that the Shop lot unit is much easy and better in term of micro control. This is one of the reasons why standalone is harder to do compare Shop lot unit.

For Standalone the only thing you could decide is the placement of the entrance hole of the Bh at East, South,West,Etc. other than that you can’t do much it is out of your control it is nature. The most important is to counter this with good wall insulating and good internal design.

For me I would prefer to have a Standalone to face the directing of birds sourcing for food rather than the directing of avoiding the sunlight. As I had mentioned before, we could counter the sunlight with additional insulation material and partitioning.

So now you know why Standalone is harder and taking longer time for birds to stay.

Tokek in Bh. ( Big Lizard in Bh)

This type of Lizard called the Tokek is commonly found in Bh. They grow up to 1ft or more. They live in Bh surviving on birds eggs, young chicks, sometimes even adult birds. This is not something new it has been in Bh ever since Bh started in Malaysia.

If your Bh has colonies of this type of Lizard the nests growth will be slow. There are found especially in Bhs that located in plantations, near secondary forest, etc.

It is not surprised that it could also be found in Bhs that are located in town. If a pair of them stayed in the Bh they will live and grow there.

I caught a pair of this Tokek at my Bh in Taiping which located in the Town area. I guess they liked the cool and humid environment of my Bh which is an old pre-war building that converted into Bh.

It’s common to catch dozen of them in all sizes in Bh that is located in plantation. My friends used to kill many of them every month in his Bh near Batu Kurau.

Claimed to have high medicine value of millions of dollar for every kg. So far I wonder who is going to pay or buy it.

There are also blogs that show how it could be reared for its medicine value but so far none of my friends could find buyers of such offer, lets not talk about million ringgit, hundred ringgit also don’t have.

I guess it is a myth and everybody was excited about its medicine value. I do understand there are used in traditional Chinese medicine but it is not that expensive.

Secondly you could find them at the pet shop. I wonder those from the pet shop are the similar type that we found in our bhs?

I don’t know and I have to find out.

I didn’t post the larger picture because most, if not all Swiftlet farmers already knew the effectiveness of Love potion. Some had tried other brands but they still prefer Love potion.

從新的燕屋農場收穫到的燕窩

Harvest Nests in New Bh

You need to harvest all nests that left by the young birds. Swiftlets in a way like to recycle their nests. Once the chicks had fled the nests have to be harvested otherwise other birds that are into mating or the same pair that had used the nests before would use it back. In this way the owner may miss a cycle of harvesting. So the actual number of nests could have been higher but the owner didn’t take the advantage.

Many farmers especially those from new bhs rarely harvest their nests. Some keeping them till a year or more. Sighted it is better this way as they afraid if they harvest them they might not see those nests again. This is absolutely wrong. As long the young birds have left the nests it can be harvested. It is nature’s condition, good harvesting could push up the number of nests but it has to be done in a good and well planned manner.

Understand the cycle and period of breeding, the high and low of number of nests throughout the 12 months period of a particular Bh or area would help in planning out the harvesting schedule. Jot them down every time you visit your Bh, the number of nests, nests markings, etc. Make a chart from here a high and low month of brooding could be seen. From here you would know how many times you need to harvest per year. Note, this is particular vital for Bh that has reached 1 year and above. Any wrong or improper planning of harvesting during the essential growth period would push down the number nests.

Sometimes it is good to follow the books. There are lots of books from Indonesia which write about the period of breeding season, harvesting, etc. You may learn few things from there but don’t forget the geographical area of Indonesia is not the same as Malaysia. Their breeding and brooding period is not the same as well because most of these periods are coincide with raining and monsoon season. What is raining season in Indonesia but for Malaysia it could be hot weather due to its geographical location.

Let’s not look too far for comparison, even within the East and West of Malaysia there is significant differences in term of peak and low season. The raining season influences the breeding time as most nests building started before or early of the raining season. So this 2 seasons influence the harvesting schedule.

As for new Bhs that have got not many nests it is good to harvest them as this would prevent the nests from being recycled again.

Second it is a must to remove (harvests) those Styrofoam fake nests that have been left by birds. If not they would continue to build nest on those same fake nests and the white chips of the Styrofoam would stick and pollute the nests.

Also not to forget if possible never harvest the nests during rainy day. It not good for your Bh.
